Hi, All.
It's time to start talking about X-COM 6 and MicroProse wants your input!
We are, indeed, planning the next X-COM game,
and (as of right now) I am involved in its design.
It is still VERY early in the pre-production stage
(read: don't expect it on the shelves soon)
we're talking a release in 18 + months from the start of production
(that's the average production time for a game).
We would very much like to get input from X-COM fans to see
exactly what you would like to see in the next installment.
So far, we know the following about X-COM 6:
(1) It will go back to X-COM's roots: a strategy/squad combat game
in the vein of the first two games (UFO Defense and TFTD).
(2) It will be set in the time period between Interceptor and Apocalypse.
(3) It will more clearly define and deepen the storyline and setting
of the X-COM universe. (We have a tentative plot in mind.)
This is as far as we have gotten at this point.
At this early stage of development, we want to hear fan ideas,
suggestions, comments, etc. Obviously, we won't use every idea submitted,
but we really want fan input during the formative phase
of the project--before any code is written.
Some issues that we really want covered are things like
pure turn-based vs. real-time, likes and dislikes
concerning the first three games and so forth.
Please submit your ideas to me at the X-COM e-mail address
interceptor@microprose.com
Don't post the ideas in the forums or on the boards,
as it will not be as easy for the development team
to keep track of things that way.
We want to do justice to the X-COM brand,
and to do so we need input from the fans!
(See, we're not evil guys who want to screw up the brand after all!)
