Following the peace treaty
which ended the Great Northern War (1721), of
Sweden's possessity of Wismar. Here were to be
found enlisted Swedish military units. Of these,
two regiments, stationed in peacetime at
Stralsund, are of special interest.
The
Queen's Own Household Regiment was formed in 1720
from parts of two originally purely Swedish
regiments, raised in 1703. At Stralsund, however,
Pomerian soldiers were enlisted and in time the
regiment assumed a German character. It took part
in Sweden's wars during the 1800th century. The
Swedish Queen was Honorary Colonel of the
Regiment.
In
1749 a new garrison regiment was raised at
Stralsund and named after its commanding officer.
Also this regiment, in whole or in part, fought
in the 1800th century wars for Sweden. Towards
the end of the century both these regiments were
firmly established at Stralsund.
