Voice Notes |
As everyone knows you can only store on C: when you are using the external buttons to record voice notes.
And C: is usually full already...
Boris Alcaraz have a small trick to solve this problem.
Before you try this you MUST take a backup....
- Open the file C:\System\System.ini in a HexEditor
If you DON'T know wkat a HexEditor is you can forget the whole thing.
- Look around offset $40. There(approx) you will find the path of your voice notes file.
(Normally 'C:\Documents\Voice Notes' on a 'Norwegian'/English machine)
- Change C: to D: and store the file.
- Your voice notes will now be stored on D:\Documents... (Might be a good idea to create the folder if it don't exist :-)

Changeing the 'silk screen' buttons |
If you are like me then tere's some programs on the 'silk screen' row that you don't as much as programs on the 'exstras' bars...
Wouldn't it be nice if you could switch them about?
Otfried Cheong have found a way to do this:
The secret is that the system 'Shell' program that is responsible for starting the different Applications considers the 'silk screen' row as a part of the
'extras' bars. The icon positions is numbered with 0 for 'System', 1 for 'Word' to 7 for 'Scetch'. 8 is the position above the 'word' icon. The 'Extras' icon is NOT numbered, but the place above is numbered 15.
This is how to switch two icons around...
(You have made a backup?)
- Give the program you are about to 'move' to the 'silk screen' a fixed position with the controlpanel.
- Start a HexEditor with the file C:\System\Shell\shell.ini
- Find the names of the Applications you wish to switch.
- Before the names there's a Byte that indicates the length of the namestrings.
The four Bytes before that is the Applications 'Unique Application ID'. (DO NOT TAMPER WITH THIS)
In front of that there's tree Bytes containing 0.
In the Byte'n before that again you'll find the icons position. F.example 02 for 'Sheet'...
- Switch the values of the Bytes concerning the Applications, WITHOUT changeing anything else!
- Save the file with the same name(and place) as before.
- Do a 'soft reboot' to make the changes active. (Make certain not to do anything that can change this file before that)
- The simplest way to do a 'reboot' is to exit ALL programs, and then press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Fn]+[K]
- Now you can test whether the icons work...
If you mess up the file the system will discard it, and overwrite it with the default values.

***** Faster Internet
['Praise'] |
As everybody knows, the MsgSuite/GSM phone isn't the fastest combination...
It is possible to make it work a little faster. If you pay attention, you'll notice that for several seconds it says Looking up host address.
When this happens, the MsgSuite is asking a DNS server for a translation between servername/IP-adress. You can insert the most frequently used adresses directly on your Psion...
You do it like this:
- Import the text file C:\System\Data\hosts into Word
- This file contains a line linje '127.0.0.1 lokalhost' that must not be changed.
- Add a line with the adress to the servers you use most often.
- Export the file to a new name.(You can't put it back where you found it from Word)
- Copy the file back into the C:\System\Data folder.
Here's the adress for some popular servers:
