Norwegian car plates have two letters and five digits (10000 - 99999),
e.g. AA 12345.
Other vehicles have plates with two letters and four digits (1000 - 9999),
e.g. BC 5678.
Temporary plates have two letters and two digits (10 - 99),
e.g. DJ 99.
You can tell from the two letters where the car was originally registered. If a car is sold, its plates are not changed, even if the new owner lives in another part of Norway. Exceptions:
The following letters and letter combinations are not used: G, I, M, O, Q, W, Æ, Ø, Å, NS, SS. |
