Programming is often time consuming and difficult, but the satisfaction
of getting a program to work is hard to describe. It sometimes develops skills
in analyzing problems by cutting them into smaller pieces in order
to reach the goal. If you're interested in user interfaces, it's very
rewarding to try to create applications yourself: You'll learn how to
focus on the person who's going to use the program. In fact,
programming can sometimes be quite fun!
My Web Pages
The Internet (which includes my homepage
on the "World Wide Wait") is currently one of my most time consuming
hobbies!
I decided to remove the Norwegian pages, so I no longer have to update two sets
of HTML files ... If only I had an
Oracle database
at my disposal, with
all the beautiful features of PL/SQL!
Everybody who has a
camera
can enjoy a wonderful hobby if they want to.
It doesn't have to be expensive - only a book or two on the
subject of composition and techniques. If you're really interested,
you can buy a professional camera with various lenses, and maybe also
equipment for developing films and pictures so that you may learn the
whole process, from the shoot to the
development process using your own lab. Or you could switch to
digital photography,
which I did 25.08.2001
Building plastic models is something I've been doing since I was young,
and I have still some kits I haven't assembled. This hobby demands a
great deal of patience and precision, which by the way are important
skills in many other areas of life (I think). As a bonus, you may produce
some nice display objects (that collect huge amounts of dust after a while)!
I have mostly travelled as a "normal" tourist, because that doesn't
involve too much preparation. Yes, I'm a bit lazy. But when I'm travelling, I
very much enjoy just being in another climate, among other kinds of people,
in another culture, hearing other languages, eating different food, and taking
pictures.
Sport (squash, jogging, biking)
My brain is depending on a healthy body to carry it around in the world
through a (hopefully) long life. If my health fails and the body no longer
can take my brain where it wants to go, it means that my brain has done a
lousy job!
