The history of
these pages and my modeling "career" and tools
When I visited
Norway's capital Oslo in July 1999, I came across a hobby shop
called Small
Size.
I had been building plastic models as a kid, and walked in because
I was thinking of building some models again.
My attention immediately fell on Tamiya's 1/12 motorcycle kits,
and I purchased two kits (no. 70 and 73) as well as some Tamiya
acrylic paint and a couple of brushes.
I was hooked from that moment on, and soon ordered more paint
and a Tamiya airbrush kit, as well as more tamiya model kits.
When this is written in the fall of 2001, I have collected all
Tamiya 1/12 kits, and I have about 40-50 other kits as well along
with several transkits and decalkits, several of wich I've buildt.
I've completed 30 kits and have about 15 as ongoing projects.
I have also houndreds of paints and finishing materials and lots
of tools and acessories, and spend time at my modeling bench several times each
week.
My main tools are my airbrushes, I have two tamiya HG models,
one regular and one fine, as well as two Tamiya compressors;
a "spray works" model used for fine painting and metalizer
painting, and a higher pressure "HG" compressor used
for regular painting.
Thinning paints correctly and mastering the airbrush is an issue
I've used lots of time on, but I've become increasingly satisfied
with my paint finishes as my technique has developed.
I rely upon other Tamiya tools as well, using their sanding and
finishing abrasives, as well as their knives and tweezers. Their
putty and compound are also things I could not do whitout.
When it comes
to paint I have distinct favourites, Tamiya's acrylic X-1 and
X-18 are used a lot, along with Alclad II, Humbrol and Model
Master metalizers, Model master Crome silver, these paints cover
90% of the chassis' finishes.
On my bodywork I like to use laquer based acrylic paints, the
japanese brand Modeler's being my current favourite. I have plans
to try Automotive paints in the near future as well.
I like to seal in the decals so I use a clear coat, Modeler's
super clear have proved excellent in this department.
I always use a respirator
and good ventilation when I work with paints!
About this site:
I'd
been thinking about making my own modeling pages for some time,
inspired by other modeling pages I have visited on the net, and
when I got the new Frontpage2000 web publisher and a digital
camera, the work started on Feb. 16 2000, and I have been working
on these web pages since then.
This page was last updated on 03
September 2001.
