Welcome to People and Places. Here I will have short
background stories on some of my favourite characters an places.

~Bilbo~
Bilbo Baggins is the hero of our first adventure,
"The Hobbit". At first he seems a quiet person, not
to happy with adventuring. But, as the plot thickens,
we learn that Bilbo has in fact got some adventuring in
him from the Took side. For those of you who have not
read The Hobbit, the Took side is the "queer" side of the
family. (Queer not meaning homosexual in this case!)
After his huge adventure in the Hobbit, Bilbo is a changed
man/hobbit.

~Gandalf~
Gandalf is probably one of the most central characters
in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He is a tall,
lean and very clever wizard, who is renowned in the Shire
for his amazing fireworks. This is the person who first
dragged Bilbo along on his amazing journey. He practically
leads the party of adventurers in The Lord of the Rings and
is one of my favourite characters.

~Frodo~
This little Hobbit is the Ring Bearer in the Lord of the
Rings. On his shoulders lies the fate of Middle-Earth.
He is also Bilbo's nephew. (correct me if I'm wrong!)
He carries The One Ring all over Middle-Earth on a quest
to destroy it. You will have to read the book to see how
this ends!

~Sam~
Sam Gamgee is Frodo's loyal companion. Although not the
brightest person in the world, Sam will stick with Bilbo
through thick and thin.

~Sauron~
This is the Lord of Evil. He wants to obtain The One Ring
from Frodo so he can control Middle-Earth. He has the other
rings, and he needs Frodo's to "in darkness bind them".
Very scary character.

~Aragorn~
Aragorn, also known as Strider, is an old friend of Gandalf's.
He is a Ranger by profession. Frodo & Co. find him a bit
suspicious at first. But, as it turns out, Aragorn is a very
valuable asset to The Fellowship. He is my ABSOLUTE favourite
character in The Lord of the Rings.

~Legolas~
Legolas is an Elven archer. If my memory serves me right
he joined The Fellowship when they where in Rivendell.
He has many valuable skills, for example the ability to
see far like a hawk. He is extremely skilled with the bow.

~Gollum~
This slimey, ugly creature also known as Smeagol, killed
his brother to obtain The One Ring. He did not know what
forced him to do it. We first meet Gollum in The Hobbit,
where he and Bilbo have a game of riddles in the caves of
the Goblins. This game really was a matter of life and
death. The second time we meet Gollum is in The Lord of
the Rings.

~The Shire~

Home of the Hobbits.

A beautiful, tranquil place. Nothing particularly exciting happens here,

and that's the way the hobbits like it!

~Lothlorien~

This magnificent place is a home of Elves, and the beautiful Galadriel,

queen of the forest. This is also my favourite place in Tolkien's world.

~Mordor~

The Land of Shadows. This is the home of the evil Sauron.

The Fellowship must bring the ring into Mordor to Mount Doom, where they must destroy it.

This is a foul and evil place.
