BEFORE:
Starting the whole project - a Taunus marked by years of outdoor parking...
- AND AFTER:
Freshly renewed - the Taunus is now ready for new trips and yet more miles on the road
- and I've learned a lot!
So, now I'm practically
- if you can ever say you're done with a project like this... At least the car is back in one piece and so far I have been working on it for more than 1000 hours. You'll find the story behind this project on these pages.
You'll also find directions to various other Taunus-pages, among them the Ford Taunus club of Norway.

A few words about my Taunus and a few words about meFor 13 years we travelled all over Norway, my Taunus and I. Then the rust popped up. Yikes! Something had to be done, and a quick glance revealed that this "something" could not be done in open air outside our house. At about the same time the amount of money given in return for delivering cars to a wreckyard increased. But no, I wanted a better solution - if only it could be found. Quickly describing myself, I'm ten years older than my car - but fortunately there has been no suggestions so far that I need a renewal ;-). I am, as I've always been, a girl with a keen interest in cars and car maintenance. This was my first renewal project. |

Glimpses from the garageIn the nick of time I found a solution that made the future for my Taunus look much brighter. In addition I were given the opportunity to do as much as possible myself. This page gives you a few glimpses of what that led to. More |

DetailsSomething happens to ones perspective as one dismantles a car. For hours and weeks only details count. Small stains of rust and bumps in one single door provide hours of work. Then the entire piece of metal is primed and covered with one colour. Once again seen as a whole, the piece reveals itself as beeing - a DOOR! More |

History of a worn down camshaftOHC - overhead camshaft, sympathetically placed on the very top of the engine. That should be plain sailing, or...? More |

A day to remember! After three days of careful rubbing and masking, the moment I'd long been waiting for rapidly came closer. It was time to drive the car into the paint-room for priming. I placed the last piece of masking tape, opened the garagedoor and then - the rain started pooring down! More |

The final rubbingSo far I'd only rubbed loose parts. Here time had come to work on the biggest piece - the body itself. More |

Coming up next was - paint! This is what the car looked like when I saw it for the last time without paint. I'd put away the rubbing paper, twisted the sponge, emptied the bucket and washed the surface of the car. I really wondered what it would look like when it once again was covered with paint... More |

Mounting - and testing my systemWhen I dismantled the car, I used a lot of empty liverpaste-boxes, small see-through plasticbags and stickers to tuck away a huge number of bolts and nuts in a systematic way. Now it was time to put all the bits and pieces back together again. Would my system prove to be useful? More |

On the road againOne late evening, mid-October 1999, I hit the road again for my first - and last - trip that year. I had a 200 kilometre drive ahead of me, to get to a garage where the car would stay through the winter. More |
