It was in Stavanger Norway became one kingdom during a great battle between the latest of the vikings around 900 A.D.
Today Stavanger is the big oil-city of Scandinavia, and about each 15th of the inhabitants in the Stavanger-area are oil-workers from foreign countries (mainly the USA).
Stavanger has also a rich culture of fishing and the area around is mostly farmed land.
The nature in the Stavanger-area is beautiful. It has everything from seaside to mountains, the only problem is that it rains a lot here.

Many different arrangments, on the city streets and in the harbour, bring enjoyment to city life the year around. The photo show the "Sjøsprøyt" fun at Vågen, and the "Rennebilløpet" race.

The harbour is a popular restaurant and bar area with a lot of life all year around and when it is season, the harbour is for small boats only. For those who wants to shop Stavanger offer both small and typical norwegian shops, and the great markeds.
