NOFX Live on 20 July 1997 in Ljubljana

report by Hrvoje Kvasnicka.
I suppose 70 percent of the people who are visiting my site and NOFX fans in general have never been to a NOFX
live show. So I thought it'd be nice if I shared one of my nicest experiences with them and with you who have already
been to some of their shows.
It was 20th of July 1997, the day of NOFX final European Eating Lamb Tour gig.
Anyway, it was a really nice day. It wasn't like really hot or anything, it was a bit cloudy so our trip was easier,
cause the show was not in our town, but in other country so we had to go across the border. It was fun traveling

in train cause there were nine of us in a coupe for 6 persons and there was also a lot of other people from my town
so you could feel some punk atmosphere in the air. When we came to Slovenian border we had some troubles cause
the goddamn Slovenian cops didn't like us much. They were pretty fucked up and they had nothing better to do than
torture us. They even made one of my friends empty her entire bag. Well, as we passed those dickheads we went on
traveling in Slovenia and it took us like half an hour till we got to Ljubljana. It was raining and the place where
the show was going to take place wasn't really close to railway station and everybody we asked to show us the way
was from Croatia, looking for the place as well. Finally after walking for half an hour we

found the place. We had to wait for about 2 hours for the show to start so we went to buy some beer. I didn't want to
spend too much money on beer so I'd have enough for the shirts. So when they let us in, first thing I did was that I
went buying shirts. Here is what one of them looks like:
On the back it says Chocolate covered, Caramel coated, Noughat filled, Nutty Punk Rock with NOFX logo above it. Another
one was from the tour they were on, Eating Lamb tour (with that famous guy 69ing a sheep). And the last one
is with that bum that holds Hobophobic lyrics in Heavy Petting Zoo cover holding NOFX will fuck your food instead of
lyrics, from Fuck Ewe tour 1996. OK, enough about thee shirts. One funny fact is that when that guy that was opening
the show shouted out LJUBLJANAAAA!!!! you could hear only like one fifth of the crowd showting back. Most of
the people were from Croatia.

The place was smoked up as Hell.

In the back of the stage was that 69er sayin Stop eating animals. NOFX sucks!
First band that played were Scuffy Dogs from Slovenia. They sucked. Then there was a band from Croatia called
Hladno Pivo (in English Cold Beer) from Zagreb, Croatia played. They rock. They are very popular even in Slovenia so
everyone was like into it. But most of us were waiting for one thing: NOFX. So when Hladno Pivo went off
the stage we had to wait for 30 minutes. I was really nervous. Then lights turned off for a moment and went back on.
We were all like shouting when N O F X came out!. I couldn't belive it. They were not something I was expecting.
They were wearing some normal clothes and shoes, not like in all those pictures and Fat Mike cut his dreads off and he
wasn't really

as fat as his nickname says. El Hefe wasn't wearing his sunglasses or any other fancy stuff as he usually does and Erik
didn't have his hair painted. Eric had this cool shirt with Burger king logo sayin Murder king. It took
some time before they were ready to start the show. Then Fat Mike and El Hefe started talking some shit and Fat Mike
farted into the microphone sayin This is the way we say hello in American. He was down cause the crowd was more
happy with stuff El Hefe said than he did. They were talking about some pub that has good beer and about how they're
putting out a new album. So they started with that song Alcoholics which was probably supposed to be on new the
album, but it never came up. It was something like I wanna be an alcoholic... and it was a pretty good one too,
they should've released it. After that they played
Hobophobic and Six Pack Girls. They played like three songs in three minutes as Fat Mike said. After that they played
Linoleum, Release The Hostages and Liza & Louise. That was pretty cool and people were really

satisfied with the songs they played. Then they sang Dad's Bad News. That was the first time I heard that song
and it was nice. I didn't know Don't Call Me White was so popular until they began to play it. Everybody
was really all over the place and especially during Bob that came right after it. The one thing I found out there
was that El Hefe sings a lot. I think Fat Mike don't sing more songs that El Hefe does. I thought he sings only
in a few songs but when I saw them playing... he sings like half of the songs. It was like the middle of the show
when they played Moron Brothers. They played it in the same way like they did on I Heard They Suck Live,
with that and yo momma and yo father in the end. I liked the song after that the most. It was Champs Élysées.
Fat Mike said it was the first time they had played it in public. They played like original was played, not like on

Stage as seen from afar.

So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes. It was GREAT. I kept singing the song for the whole summer. After
Champs Élysées my legs were feeling like they are going to fall off my body so I had to sit down for a while and
rest. I was so swetty that drops of sweat kept falling from my nose and from my shirt. Anyway it happened when they
played some

"This is Timmy the Turtle."

song named Herb that I never heard of. Well I didn't know they'd play so many songs (even 24)!
One stupid cop was beating everybody who tried to mosh pitting so Erik jumped from his seat and yelled No
violence!!!. At the end of the song Fat Mike said This guy here punches people! That's not right, get outta
here!! and that dickhead got seriously flamed by the crowd.
I reallz liked Hot Dog In a Hallaway. They were really not only playing the songs but also entertaining the crowd.
They had some cool talks with the crowd and with each other. Besides that they were jumping all over the stage while
playing. Imagine Fat Mike playing his bass and jumping as high as he can. El Hefe had that guy that always catches the
trumpet when he throws it after he finishes playing it, cause he has to continue playing guitar. I was really sorry I
wasn't able to

dance to Perfect Government cause I really like that song but I was exhausted. After that it was
El Hefe's time with Johnny Appleseed and Kill All The White Man. That was when I rested a bit and I had
to go dancing to it. We were all dancing some sorta reggae and then when that fast part came up we were all over the

place. Eric Melvin sang in two songs, Reagan Sucks and Lori Meyers, he sang that part performed bz that
chick on Punk In Drublic. I liked the way they played Together On The Sand. It was wicked! But they
didn't have that as I fucked yo grandmomma's doughter part, I wonder why. Well everything comes to an end and so we
knew it as The Brews came up. That was the song I was waiting for. That was when I stopped watching out for myself
and went to that wildest part of the place where were all this guys weighting 100 kg and more beating each other. That's
what I'll remember as long as I live. And in the end Buggley Eyes to all the beautiful girls out there.
El Hefe sang it, of course. When show finished El Hefe took those set lists and threw it into the crowd and I caught one
of them. He even threw those half empty beer cans and I only managed to slow down one cause he threw it too fast. After
that Fat Mike stayed on the stage shaking hands with the people. I shook hands with him too. Well by that time the place
was almost empty and we had to leave. The train for Zagreb was leaving at 3:25 and it was just 1 o'clock. I was so fucking
wet that I put on all the shirts except those two that were wet as hell, hoping I wouldn't get pseumonia or even something
worse. The good thing was that we found this place that had everything cheap cause I was exhausted and really needed something
to eat and drink. When we finished eating we went into a train that was out of use so thet we wouldn't freeze ourselves.
Finally train for Zagreb came and we got on. It was alredy loaded! We hardly found some space to get some rest. Fuck
Slovenia and it's railroad! People were stepping on us, desperately looking for space. When we finally came to Zagreb
it was like 6 am.
Thanx to my private language editor, Nika Pavlinek who corrected all the
