 My name is Olav Ulvenes. My wife,
Sølvi and I are living on the Ulvenes-farm inØlve, a small village by the Hardanger fjord, in
Kvinnherad kommune in the western part of Norway. The name Ulvenes is made of two parts; Ulv means
Wolf and nes means cape (Cape Wolf). Apparently there were a lot of
wolves here in the old days. Now there are no wolves but an increasing
number of deer. |

The farm is situated by the fjord with a
long coastline. The climate is mild, thanks to the fjord and the
Gulf-stream. The farm-owners were making their income from the fjord (fishing) and the farm (cows and sheeps). They also cut lumber for house and shipbuilding. They had their own saw-mill. They made wooden barrels and cases for sale. There is a stone-maid stove down by the fjord where they produced lime or plaster for building material. All this was "small-scale home industry". The road to the farm was finished in 1937. Before that time they had to use the rowing boat to the shop in Ølve or across the fjord to Uskedalen, to the church in Ølve, and so on. Our family has been on the farm since 1650 (that is what we can find from public files) |

ged.com. files from my family-program on the web. You are welcome to

to enlarge them. You will find pictures of my grand- and
greatgrandparents and of my greatgrandfathers brother, Halvor H.
Ulvenes who emigrated to USA in 1871. He is the forefather of many
americans. Thanks to Elisabeth Ann U. Zanmiller and John PColm for help
with my research "over there". My hope is that the family-tree will grow. Please send me some feed-back, comments and corrections |

I have restored the cabin
where our great-grandparents were born. The cabin was brought to the
farm in 1812 by our 3.rd great grandfather, Ole Hansen Boland. Along the coast there are 4 grave-mounds (a lot of stones put together) from the Viking-age. Thanks for
