The farm-owners were making their income from the fjord (fishing) and the farm (cows and sheeps). They also cut lumber for house and shipbuilding. They had their own saw-mill. They made wooden barrels and cases for sale. There is a stone-maid stove down by the fjord where they produced lime or plaster for building material. All this was "small-scale home industry". The road to the farm was finished in 1937. Before that time they had to use the rowing boat to the shop in Ølve or across the fjord to Uskedalen, to the church in Ølve, and so on. Our family has been on the farm since 1650 (that is what we can find from public files) |
