Just click on the captions to view the pictures. The pictures will open, without captions,
in their own browser window, which you just close when you are done with it.
This page is quite simple, in order to shorten loading times, but if you prefer an index list
with small pictures you should try the thumbnail version instead
for a better layout.
At present there is 108 pictures in the gallery.
Feel free to nag Owen about captions to the ones that don't have one yet. Bjørnar
- Listahamn on the western shore of the Lista headland.
- Another view of Listahamn. Why does that little red boat keep sneaking into my photographs?
- Leaving Egersund.
- The guest harbour in Stavanger.
- Midsummer party at Langøy
- The dock at Langøy. The island belongs to the Stavanger sailing club. Electricity and water on the dock, and an "honesty box" inside the clubhouse which was unlocked!
- Tied up for the night at Hamn near the inlet to Lysefjorden.
- Carina of Portland Oregon in Lysefjorden.
- Summer cabins with no road access.
- Carina lends some scale to the scenery.
- We had a sailing breeze for a grand total of 45 minutes in Lysefjorden.
- Approaching Lysebotn at the end of Lysefjorden.
- Tied up at Lysebotn. One store, one post office, a few houses and a powerplant.
- A farm in Lysefjorden with no road access.
- Scuba enjoying the scenery.
- This impressive rock guards the community of Forsand at the inlet to Lysefjorden.
- Scuba enjoying the scenery II.
- A beautiful anchorage at Arnøya just outside the inlet to Lysefjorden. Beware! The natives are hostile! An old man in the little white house did not want us anchored so close to his summer residence.
- This tree at Utstein has adapted to the prevailing wind.
- A very young Shetland pony at the Utstein monastery.
- The young Shetland pony's mommy.
- The 13th century monastery at Utstein.
- Gregory Miller on Carina leaving Utstein.
- Panorama
- Haugesund looks nice at a distance.
- If you can't find a dock for your boat, find somewhere to hang her! (Spotted just south of Haugesund.)
- Beautiful hand made ships models for sale at Skudefestivalen (the ship's festival) at Skudeneshavn.
- Many of the old wooden boats at Skudefestivalen were immaculately kept.
- Wall to wall boats at Skudefestivalen.
- More wall to wall boats at Skudefestivalen.
- Two representatives of an old ship's engine club from Tungenes. Yes, she's running. Look at the smoke, and the movement of the flywheel.
- Starting up another old glowhead fishingboat engine. First you have to preheat the glowhead with a blowtorch! These engines run with a lovely old "Thump, thump, thump..." Nothing like the roar of a modern infernal combustion engine. They are started by pressurised air.
- I fell for these beautiful hand-crafted cupboards. Just like something out of "The Hobbit" I'd have one, if only I had room.
- The "Swan" (to the right) had come to the festival at Skudeneshavn from Lerwick, Shetland.
- Espevær is a lovely green island right out in the ocean. The nature is beautiful, and there is an UFO ring.
- From the harbour at Espevær.
- Leaving Espevær.
- The lonely sea and the sky. Taken on the way from Espevær to Kleppavik (before the rain and fog came.)
- This harbour at Kleppavik was not marked on my 1975 chart.
- Another view from Kleppavik showing the new breakwater.
- The old harbour at Kleppavik.
- A room with a view. Some houses on the shore near Bergen.
- The "Fløybanen" funicular railway in Bergen.
- A ride around Bergen on the "Bergens-Ekspressen" toy train was included in the harbour dues.
- Mutual support: Old wooden houses typical of Bergen harbour.
- From the courtyard at Bergenhus fort.
- Some people have more money. The beautiful British yacht on the left looked brand new and had everything, probably including a paid crew to keep her shining.
- Traditional Norwegian double-enders and a small rescue vessel in Bergen harbour.
- Bergen is a bustling modern city, but has managed to keep much of it's old world charm.
- From Bergen Gregory Miller and I took a train, boat and bus trip to see Sognefjorden and the "Flåmsbana" railway, one of the worlds most impressive railways, and Norway's steepest. The train stopped at the Kjosfossen waterfall halfway down.
- "Huldra" dancing in the Kjosfossen waterfall. The Hulder will lure innocent young men into the mountains and keep them prisoner there, presumably as sex slaves. They are always beautiful, but can be distinguished from normal Norwegian girls by their long tail.
- The train stopped by the waterfall. OK everybody out, 10 minutes stop, get your pictures, back on the train...
- A view of the old part of Flåm from the train.
- End of the line. The railway station at Flåm.
- These old railway cars at Flåm were in use as a restaurant. We asked a beautiful young girl where to eat, and she said: Well, my uncle runs that restaurant, my sister works at that one, and my other sister works over there. In the end we shopped at the grocery store and made our own lunch.
- The Russian cruise ship "Maxim Gorkij" arriving at Flåm. She made fast with no less than nine dock lines! Rather overkill in a what is probably one of the most sheltered harbours in the world.
- Leaving Flåm and the "Maxim Gorkij". She would do well to have her fuel burning system looked over.
- Sorry, can't remember the name of this waterfall in Sognefjorden.
- Aurland on the north shore of Sognefjorden.
- Another view from Sognefjorden. If you look closely, you can make out a small white speck in the centre of the photograph. The small speck is a large ferry.
- The path up to this farm is so steep that they use ladders part of the way. In the old days, they would pull the ladder up when the taxman came, and thus avoid paying tax.
- Granite, fur trees and snow capped mountains in Sognefjorden.
- Sognefjorden, a rock climbers paradise.
- Dyrdal, (animal valley) a hunters haunt in Sognefjorden.
- On the ferry in Sognefjorden playing "canned tourist".
- The bus from the ferry stop at Gudvangen up to the railway station at Voss stopped for 10 minutes of photographing at Stalheim Hotel. This is the view.
- Back in Bergen, this is the world famous fish market next to the guest harbour.
- The NOK 80.- (USD 10.5) harbour dues in Bergen include a ride on the cable car which goes up to mount Ulriken, the highest of the seven mountains that surround Bergen.
- A view from mount Ulriken. The little bay in the centre of the photograph is Vågen with the guest harbour and town centre.
- Looking south from mount Ulriken.
- The Ulriken cable car, a small can of tourists.
- Bergen is a nice place to be when the sun is out.
- A view from the old part of Bergen.
- A night view from my cockpit in Bergen with a fog bank lurking right outside the harbour mouth. The Russian "Maxim Gorkij" cruise ship followed us there, and still needed to see to her fuel burning system.
