There are a number of good fishing grounds fairly close to the campsite. Among the more common fish species are cod, coalfish, mackerel and herring. With a bit of luck, you could even catch tusk, redfish, trout or halibutt. The king of the forests, the Norwegian moose, is a common sight in this part of the country. In the Helgeland area, you also find the highest density of white-tailed eagle in the world. On the island Tjøtta, 8 kilometres away, you find many traces telling tales of its rich historical past. Tjøtta was home of the Vikings Øyvind Skaldespille and the mighty chief Hårek, and you can still see remains of Viking dwellings and burial mounds. Tjøtta Farm with its old cotter`s farms are also well worth a visit- or you could simply take a nice walk along the marked cultural trail. The opportunities for memorable mountain walks are also excellent here. Signposted trails of varying length make it easy to find your way up to one of the peaks that constitute "The Seven Sisters". The closest trail is approx. 10 kilometres north of the campsite. ![]() The coastline of Helgeland is great for bicycling. If you would like to explore the islands on your own, Offersøy Campsite is a great starting point. In just two days time, you can visit Tjøtta, Vega, Herøy, Dønna and Sandnessjøen. On the island Tro, a fifteen-minute journey from Tjøtta by ferry, there is a large range of rock carvings. One of these carvings is picturing a person on skis- probably the worlds` oldest skier! (Well- known from the official Lillehammer Olympic Pictographs of 1994.) The poet minister Petter Dass lived and worked at Alstahaug, 12 kilometres north of Offersøy Campsite. The church and the Petter Dass Museum are open to visitors. Should you require further information, do not hesitate to contact us! We would be happy to give you a price estimate and promise that you will be pleasantly surprised. | |
