24 Reasons To Dump Windows

These pages has been generated with the wysiwyg editors OpenOffice and StarOffice 5,2. They complete each other quite well, even though they both is developed from the same source code from Star Division™.

The advantages of wysiwyg editors (As the above, Front page or Netscape Composer), is that you can add the text fast. And to a certain degree add picture and other graphics, and see how it's gonna be. -Somewhat like creating a document with an ordinary text editor.

The disadvantages though, is that they're not very capable when it comes to advanced html. They can do the simple things, and for a beginner that's pretty much enough. But if you, for instance, want a site with frames, or more complex “tables”, they're not a good solution.

Then you'll rather prefer a more clean html-editor. These demand more insight about html codes, and it is an advantage to be a little familiar about programming in general. (Even though html isn't a programming language, but just a set of tags to help your browser display everything the right way.) Here I can recommend 1st. Page 2000 if you wish to use windows. For Linux the selection is rather better. Here I can recommend Scream, bluefish and Quanta. The advantages of these four, is that in despite to old html editors, helps you with some of the html codes. That means that you don't have to worry about learning all the tags, but let the software do that for you.

The solution I've chosen, is to first create the pages with OpenOffice. Where I add the text, and the most elementary graphics. Later on I load the pages into Bluefish 0,9, and add the more advanced features there. (Not so much as yet, but some minor work here and there.)

The Image manipulation have I done with the help of StarOffice 5,2 and in Gimp 1,2.

Update 2005: Now I've stopped using Staroffice, and is just using OpenOffice.org for wysiwyg. The photo-gallery is generated with the program/script called igal.
