If all the families follow this sample they can be self-sufficient and are not dependent of fluctuating economics on which they have no control. One such community is near Kao Phu Kao Ya (Grandfather and Grandmother Mountain). In order to make their efforts for saving their direct surroundings easier, it would be better if there could be introduced low impact eco tourism. But the villagers don't have any idea how to attract tourists neither what is necessary in terms of accommodation or infrastructure. W: The work will focus on making the villagers aware (discussion) and helping them (practically such as making a path) setting up a new eco tourism destiny. Some activities aim on giving those without work a new profession, some help children in need, others work on an herbal garden. There are many theories about why there is more AIDS to be found in the northern provinces. Among the hill tribes the problems are even more serious as they have less access to the mainstream education and information. It is good to have a first hand look at the problems and give a helping hand where possible. 2.Work The work will focus on study and the trying to find ways to help the villages in the hills looking for solutions. For the NGO in case it is very good to get some international exposure and see international interest in the fight against AIDS . S: The work will focus on study and discussion. The orphanage is not large but houses only 14 girls at this moment. A contact of Greenway told us about an Island group in India, close to Thailand, where a tribe is living, which is facing extinction. This camp has the aim to learn about the situation and about what can be done in order to help this tribe. After the camps Greenway will take steps to improve their situation. These steps will depend on the information learned during these two pioneer camps. The second aim of this camp is to build a positive relationship with the local people and all others involved, in order to get insight information about the needs and possibilities and to make working together possible. W: observing the situation in this area, acknowledging the problems and brainstorming about possible solutions in a worldwide perspective as well as in a local perspective keeping the possibilities Greenway has to make a difference in future in mind. This resulted in a lot of attention for the garbage problem. Still the area knows a lot of small-scale pollution; discarded garbage can be found at many places. We will work with local students and look first hand at the problem, do something about it and discuss…which way in 2000 and beyond… W: The works consists of visiting places and see it first hand, discuss all and produce a memorandum for action planned. The deforested areas became unfertile agricultural lands that only allow non- demanding crops (mainly tapioca). If all the families follow this sample they can be self-sufficient and are not dependent of fluctuating economics on which they have no control.
