LIVERPOOL AND RANGERS MISS OUT ON SIXES FINAL

Liverpool and Rangers were condemned to a duel for third place in the four-team Sony Mini Disc European Sixes tournament in Amsterdam tonight after failing to win their third games in the two-day event.
Liverpool crashed to their third successive defeat, following last night's 5-0 drubbing by AC Milan and 7-3 mauling by Rangers with an 8-1 massacre by Ajax.
Rangers -- missing England star Paul Gascoigne, who returned home last night with an injured ankle -- held Milan to a 3-3 draw, allowing the Italian side to qualify for a final meeting with Ajax.
Finnish international Jari Litmanen scored three goals in Ajax's defeat of Liverpool, crowning his hat-trick with a delicate chip.
The matches were played on a reduced-size pitch in Amsterdam's roofed Arena in front of more than 20,000 fans.
Rangers clinched third place after winning a shoot-out for third place against Liverpool.
AC Milan won the tournament by beating Ajax 6-2 in the final.
