On September 30, 1983: Michael Stipe and Matthew Sweet performed
at the Stitchcraft, Athens, GA. Together they did 4 songs during
an R.E.M.-set. Peter Buck and Curtis Crowe probably also
participated masked under this name.
IT CRAWLED FROM THE SOUTH:
On October 31, 1983: R.E.M. performed covers only, except for
their own "Burning hell", at the Peppermint Lounge, New
York, NY.
HINDU LOVE GODS:
In January, 1984: Bill Berry, Peter Buck & Mike Mills with
Bryan Cook played mostly covers at the 40 Watt Club, Athens, GA.

Bryan Cook and Warren Zevon played mostly covers at 40 Watt Club,

masked under this name. The setlist from this show is unknown.
THE MYSTERY TWINS:
On May 24, 1987: Peter Buck & Michael Stipe were announced
under this name at McCabe's Guitar shop, Santa Monica, CA. Some
songs included Mike Mills, Natalie Merchant, Peter Case, Steve
Wynn and Jenny Holmer.
THE SOUTHERN GENTLEMEN:
On May 11, 1988: Bill Berry, Peter Buck & Mike Mills
performed with Roger McGuinn at the Uptown Lounge, Athens, GA.
Together they played songs by the Byrds and Bob Dylan.
WORST CASE SCENARIOS:
On March 5, 1989: Peter Buck & Peter Holsapple with Robyn
Hitchcock, Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor played at Cubby Bears
Lounge, Chicago IL, masked under this name. This show starts off
as a Peter Holsapple acoustic show of 9 songs, and he was later
joined by the others for a 15-songs set, consisting mostly of
cover songs.
NIGEL & THE CROSSES:
On March 8, 1989: Peter Buck & Robyn Hitchcock with Mike
Mills, Peter Holsapple, Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor played
at First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. This set was mostly Hitchcock's
own songs, but also included Beatles / Band / Byrds-covers.
