Sámi NissonForum (Forum of Sami women)

Sámi NissonForum is a network for local and regional development on womens premises. In the network, the members can seek partners in order to work together on issues of common interest. Annually, SNF arrange seminars which include cultural experiences. This year SNF will arrange seminar in connection to the Women's Worlds 99-conference 20-26th of June in Tromsø. SNF is affiliated to Forum for Women and Development (FOKUS).

Projects we are working on:

The women's magazine "Gába". Gába is usually written in Sami and Norwegian, but we've got one edition in English: "Voices of Sami Women". The magazine focuses on issues on and from the Sami society; seen with the eyes of a woman. Gába contains articles, interviews, short stories, poems, bookreviews and much more. SNF arranges an Eami Femi Room, a meetingplace for indiginous women at big conferenses. We arranged it first tima at Women's Worlds 99-conference 20-26.06.99 in Tromsø.

SNF was co-organizer of work-shop at Women's Worlds 99-conference 24th of June in Tromsø: Sami and Netnets Women's Health. We are working with an edition of Gába on the issue.

The SNF arranged a member seminar June 26th 1999 in Tromsø focus on the use of internet and e-mail as tools in the network cooperation. We are continuing the work, and we will send a report to all member before Christmas. We are also working with a new WEB-site. (This one is only for learning).

Russian Market Days. SNF wish to improve the conditions for Russian indigenous peoples womens sale of selfproduced handicrafts (duodji) on different markets in Northern Scandinavia. This year the market will take place in Manndalen, July 21th - 25th during the Riddu Ri˜˜u Festival. Next year in Inari 2.-3. of April, when there is the big reindeer-race. Markets like this also provide a social context for cultural interaction and exchange.

"The Rainbow - friendship across borders" is a cooperation project between children in primary school from Karasjok, Norway and Lovozero, Russia. The children exchange their own drawings and small presents. Some of the drawings were exhibited in the "Solsiden" childrens gallery at Karasjok Academy of Art last winter. S NF 's year 2000 project is to make a calendar of some of these drawings and greetings. The aim of the "Regnbuen" is to establish bonds of friendship between children and families across the national borders. The children will also make a theater based on Sami, Russian and Norwegian fairytails.

Sami NissonForum has got translated The equal status board of Norway's brochure "Myths and Facts about Equal Status" into Northern Sami language. The brochure is printed and will be distributed to all members of SNF. We have urged the Childrens and Family Ministry to publish a leaflet on facts and myths about Sámi womens status, in history and present.
