Hellemobotn

- where Norway is smallest -

Over a half a metric mile between the sea and the swedish border, surrounded by high mountains everywhere, a part of a fjord which is an extension of Tysfjord, which is also a side-fjord to Vestfjorden. A piece of the great Atlantic Sea reaching to the Scandinavian high mountains Kjølen (The Keel).

I those terms we shortly can describe the Hellemo Fjord and Hellemobotn.

Hellemobotn on a summer afternoon.

Currently:

According to the archaeologists, there have been peoples living in Hellemobotn in about 4000 years. There are tracks in the ground showing where the first inhabitants had their residences. Already then Hellemobotn was a villiage with many inhabitants. The amount of pre-historical residences is surprisingly high, but when we understand the neighbourhood to the resources, then it is not so surprising.

The sea gave it's contribution together with the rivers. Surrounding mountain areas were rich in wild animals. The climate partly atlantic and partly continental and the woods rich in berries and other vegetabilities to eat. All those gave possibilties of a comparatively rich life, even if it was stressing. It has been so untill our days.

In the whole, Hellemobotn is an unaffected landscape, let alone the influence of human activities to use the recourses for life and survival. Hellemobotn is preserved from industrial activities as powerstations and minings or other greater activities which change the nature radically.

We, who are landowners here and live here in a longer or shorter time in the summer, we want that the landscape shall be like that in the future. It is a kind of thankfullness that we could borrow the nature in a time when it was important in our way of life.

Hellemobotn is visited by peoples from many places. Somebodies are arriving with boats, and others are arriving by wandering along the mountains. This results that we have to regulate the traffic so that all is working properly for all us. Besides we want that visitors shall have nice days during the visit.
