Summary of the Norwegian Amateur Radio Regulations

There are three classes of licence :

  • Class A General licence. All bands, all permitted modes. Prefix LA,
  • Class B Restricted licence. All bands. Only A1A below 29.7MHz, all permitted modes above this frequency. Prefix LB.
  • Class C Technical licence. All permitted modes above 29.7MHz. No HF-operation. No morse test. Prefix LC.

Special prefixes:

  • Digital repeaters LD
  • Emergency Service and training for this service LE
  • Svalbard incl. Bear Island  JW
  • Jan Mayen JX
  • Antarctica, Bouvet Island, Peter I Island 3Y

Special permission from the P&T is necessary to operate from Norwegian ships equipped with compulsory radio station or from air craft. The suffixes are /MM and /AM respectively.

Other suffixes:

Station operating from other mobile unit than ship and air craft: /M.

Station operated while it is carried: /P.

Third party traffic is forbidden.

It is not allowed to send or receive third party messages.
