General Conference 1999

LETTER OF INVITATION

In December 1998 the office of IARU Region 1 sent the following Letter of Invitation to the sicities listed above:

IARU REGION 1 GENERAL CONFERENCE 1999 AT RADISSON SAS LILLEHAMMER HOTEL, NORWAY, SEPT. 19 TO 24 - 1^st CIRCULAR

 Norsk Radio Relæ Liga (NRRL; the Norwegian Radio Relay League) gives all IARU Region 1 member societies a warm welcome to participate in the IARU Region 1 General Conference 1999, which will be arranged at the Radisson SAS Lillehammer Hotel situated in the Winter Olympic city of Lillehammer in the southeastern part of Norway. Lillehammer is situated by the European highway E6 between Oslo and Trondheim, some 180 km north of Oslo at the northern end of the lake Mjösa.

The ordinary way of travel will be by airplane to the new Oslo airport Gardermoen. From the airport you may choose to catch our special NRRL shuttle bus departing approx. every 2nd hour during the daytime on Saturday Sept. 18 directly to the hotel, or you may choose the railroad from the airport to the Lillehammer railway station and a taxi from there to the hotel (approx. 1 km). NOTE: We recommend not to hire a taxi from the airport to Lillehammer because of the high cost of such a 2 hour taxi ride! The special NRRL shuttle bus will also take you back to the airport on Saturday Sept. 25 after the conference has ended.

COST (per person):

Hotel accommodation per person per day in a double room including full board .... NOK 750 (CHF ~150)

Hotel accommodation in a single room including full board .................................. NOK 950 (CHF ~190)

Extra for lunch on the day of arrival ..................................................................... NOK 215 (CHF ~43)

NRRL bus from Oslo airport to Lillehammer Hotel, roundtrip ............................... NOK 320 (CHF ~50)

Railroad from Oslo airport to Lillehammer railway station, roundtrip (1998 prices) NOK 340 (CHF ~65)

Norway Safari on Thursday .................................................................................. NOK 400 (CHF ~75)

Ladies’ program etc. to be announced. CHF cost is approximate, depending on the actual exchange rate.

NRRL has negotiated favourable hotel rates including FULL BOARD - also including dinner at the day of arrival and lunch at the day of departure plus two coffee breaks with pastries every day of the conference. There will, however, be an extra charge for the Final Dinner on Friday of NOK 230.

PROGRAM FOR THE "NORWAY SAFARI" :

Thursday September 23 is the day for taking a closer look at Norway. The preliminary plan is to take you up to the mountains by bus. Then by train to the most famous train line in Norway, the Flåm track, steeply down numerous bends to the majestic fjord Sognefjord. We will have a short ship cruise on the fjord from Flåm to Aurland, where the bus will take us back to Lillehammer along the Aurland Valley. Please bring some warm clothes for this spectacular scenic tour to the mountains and fjords. We hope you will take the opportunity to explore the most outstanding tracts of nature's beauty to be offered in Norway!

DEPOSIT:

All participating member societies will have to pay a deposit of NOK 2.000 per person by April 15, 1999. The deposit should be transferred to NRRL, account number 1594.1778817 at Union Bank of Norway (Sparebanken NOR), Oslo. We recommend using the SWIFT money transfer system between banks if available: our bank has SWIFT code UBNONOKK. The balance has to transferred to the same account before August 15, 1999, so that the cost of each participant is paid in full by that date.
