With a sulphurous smile at Waiotapu (but no champagne):
Waiotapu (by the champagne pool)

Diana Beattie, who attended the NZTWA conference, offered to show me some of the Rotorua sulphur,
after lunch at the Fat Dog. And the colours at Waiotapu were wonderful. The champagne looks a little hot.
Diana took the picture. I'm trying to smile, but I'm also longing desperately to get up from where I'm sitting. Ouch.

Afterwards Diana's daughters got to see this strange creature from the other side of the planet.

I had planned to see the Waitomo caves and the glow-worms. But Waitomo would be a bit of a detour.
Diana suggested a walk in the local woods in the dark, to see glow-worms.
Probably not as spectacular, but much more fun, and a unique experience!

The next day, Diana's partner Steve took me biking around the Green and Blue lakes.
His company had recently been acquired by Norwegian Norske Skog.

What is it with these friendly Kiwis?

Biking with Steve in the bush outside Rotorua;
evaluating the Mission Estate vines outside Napier, after sampling the wines
