10 Mtr FM From Scandanavia

During the summer months Sporadic E is a main mode of propagation for users of the 10 meter band in scandinavia,
Dx all but disappears during the short but intensive Norweigan summer.
The weather fronts coming across the North Sea are worth watching as they often result in Good openings between scandinavia and other European Countrys via sporadic-E.
Sporadic-E is an intense layer of ionisation at a height of approximatly 100-150 kms.
From my own observations when a band of rain hits the Norweigan coast that`s when the fun begins on 10FM. Signals via E`s are often very localised,and also
Change polarity without warning
There are a number of 10FM repeaters in Sweden, which by monitoring their output frequencies will give a good indication of radio conditions.
Also scandinavian 10 meter beacons are a very good guide to prevailing conditions.
During these exceptional conditions its not unusual to work all Europe with milliwatts Of output power,With this type of opening the tv bands will often also be subject To severe interference from distant tv transmitters.
50 mhz is also worth monitering during these disturbances.
