Moen Brass Band
Norway

The band history:

Moen Brass Band is a musical society in the local council of Gran, Norway. The esprit de corps is to give amateur musicians an offer to play a musical instrument and have the pleasure to give the local population good musical experiences. The conductor of the band, Rolf Magne Berget inspires the band members to perform their best in our weekly practice and in concerts. To improve our grade we take part in local contests like the Oppland contest to play with other bands in our region.

At the moment we have 30 band members, all inhabitants from the community of Gran. All members are pure amateurs daily working with other employment. We meet every Wednesday from 7:30 pm. to 10:00 pm. to our band practice. The band was established about 1851and reorganized several times, last time in 1985. Moen Brass Band is one of five bands in our local council. Our recruiting band is Jaren Brass band who is the leading band in the region. Jaren Brass Band is a first grade band competing for the leading position in Norway.

Moen Brass Band is a third grade brass band, and we are comfortable with our position. That is not preventing the band to improve its quality. We invite brass musicians to be members in our band and take part of our good and positive atmosphere. The band practice is a pleasure and recreation from everyday hustle and bustle.

Norway has a long tradition together with Great Britain, to be the band country in Europe. About 1.900 bands and 80.000 active band members are registered in Norway. Most common is the woodwind bands. It has been a growing interest of brass bands in Norway since the seventies. Every year in February the Norwegian Championship is arranged in the Grieg Hall in Bergen. This is the happening for all bands with ambitions to compete.
