LAST UPDATE:

An new variation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber 7” – Variation 23 on MCA is found an Italian pressing.

Andrew Lloyd Webber – Variation 23 – MCAN 48883 – MCA Records – Italy – 1978
- Side B: Variation 16

The notable difference between this and the UK release of “Variation 23” is the B-Side. The B-Side on the UK release is the “Variation 5 (Alternative Version)”.
As the Italian version has the B-Side: “Variation 16” that also features on the UK release of “Theme And Variations” 1-4.
Of course the cover has the same changes

Gary Moore at Notodden Blues Festival

5th August 2006

Place: Brygga (The Pier)

Audience:  Bow Down 6000 - Sold Out

Weather: Clear sunny sun sky and 30+ Degrees Celsius DrinkDrunk

Great day in Notodden, lots of people in town that day... probably close to 20.000... Lots of gigs from 1200 till midnight

I arrived in Notodden around 1200 together with friends and family.... We entered the "Brygga" around 1400 and partly listen to the warm up acts, fine blues performers...

Gary was scheduled to hit the stage at 16:40, but was delay with due to minor techincal problems, about 16:50 Gary hit the stage and kicked off in known style with 'Oh Pretty Woman'. He announced that the next song was "All Your Love (2006)", but changed the list to his famous song "Tuning Up". He joked it was freezing up at the stage and that he did the "Blue Balls Festival" in Switzerland and this is "Red Balls Festival"

He continued with 'All Your Love (2006)' in great version. With 'Since I Met You Baby' he really got the crowd going with his solo, one of the better versions I have heard for while with this song.

Then he announced the next song he not normally do a song from the 'Still Got The Blues' Album - 'Midnight Blues'. He did a fine version and strange to remember the version from Hammersmith Odeon in the Dark.... here he played in full sunshine sun

'Merry Go Round' was played very distinct and in the slow version we know. But I surely missed 'I Loved Another Woman' from the set, as he didn't do it at Hvaler either.... But he only does this song when he feels for it.

The slow intro of 'Don't Believe A Word' was great a bit in 'Jumpin' At Shadow' Style. Nice and moody slow version, before it kicked into rock and the audienced followed easy.... Great solo, bit short....

Next was the intro of 'Empty Rooms', 'So Far Away' great feeling I got when I heard the first notes of the song.... Nice version and then we got Empty Rooms, and he got the guitar out of tune and needed to change it after a verse or so, but that didn't stop the song. The band played on, Gary sung and clapped before he got the other Les Paul, if you haven't seen it you would have noticed the change. Nice bass solo by Pete Rees and great solo by Gary..... It's not up to the 89 standard, but I can't ask for more....... Great that he will play some of the old song still, and it's great that picks he them so it's surprise for us, the fans....

Next up was 'Too Tired' great version and had to laugh in the first verse, with short guitar duell with the hammond. Then great and amazing guitar solo, with lots improvision and licks that the blues audience loves.... You heard the reaction from the crowd for each note Gary played...... It surely one of the longeste versions I have heard of Too Tired with the solo more than 10 minutes as I can recall Eye Crazy... So the eyes had a hard time to follow Gary solo.

Next was oooh not again...... Yes it was 'SGTB', well you can't play a festival without it....... Big cheers when they heard the first notes........ But they were surely warmed up before that, with music and the sun..... this turned the heat up even more, for the most of them...... It was an okay version, a standard version with the normal licks and bit more advanced solo than I have heard the last times... Crows loves it, and I have got tired of it.....

'Walking By Myself' wasnot a wake up call for 'SGTB', but we are here to have great time.... Great Sing-A-Long reaction from the crowd

Gary stated that he needed the sunglasses just to be cool, and not for the sun. First encore 'The Blues Is Alright' the crowd followed easily and they have paid attention all concert along.... Great Sing-A-Long again from the crowd..... They really know who they were going to see... so they got a bonus Sing-A-Long sequence

The sound engineer put on the music low, as he was unsure if Gary would re-enter the stage, as the time was past 1810 and they show originally was going to end 1800.

But we got the his first UK 10 Single: Parisienne Walkways was very good, nothing more to say, missed the long note the first time, but had nice communication with the crowd when he hit it....

Another great gig, not on lazy day, he delivered as we known Gary does

The Band sounded very compact and great, backed up Gary very well

Good to see that Gary haven Brian with him, and it's looks like he enjoys him very much during the show.

Sound of the was perfect, even though if one of the speakers had problems one of the high tone. Sound it was busted......

Gary overall playing was great, lots of improvision and great playing. It was easy to see that Gary had great time on the stage, even if he had the sun in the face all the show in that heat! He was very talkative during the gig and joked alot.....

He justed used the Signatur Les Paul (two of them) and the Red Gibson 335, as you can see of the pics......

Enough mocking around....... Those that couldn't make..... you missed something great! D'ohchampagneBanghead This was like Langsund 2002, Drøbak 1999 and Molde 1997 just great! Whenever Gary has played outdoors in Norway the sun has came from cloudfree sky, and this time was the first he played with the sun in his face.... All the outdoor shows have been special and great atmosphere.......... goodvibes

6th June 2004

Gary Moore, Bob Daisley and Darrin Mooney live in concert!

2. July 2004 - Østfoldhallen, Fredrikstad, Norway

Having the chance to see Gary Moore again was great. He haven’t been in Norway since summer 2002, then he was here with Scars. It was just my 24th concert with Gary Moore, but one remarkable concert.

What I write in the review is all my opinion and my observation before/during/after the concert. Feel free to send me your comment of it.

The concert should have been played on Fredrikstad Stadium, but was moved during the last week. The official explaination was to protect the grass at the football pitch, but I believe the slow tickets sale were another reason to move it. But the weather haven’t been as it normaly are in June/July , it has been cold and rain a lot. I didn’t mind the change to indoors. So we ended up at Ostfoldhallen in Fredrikstad, it was about 2000 people attending. With so few audience they just used just half of the hall. Where were the promotion? I expected at least 4000 people, especially when the profit should go to the local youth team in football. No Euro 2004, beginning of summer holiday! And all the ‘Local Heros’ being there!

So finished with that, there was a 3 warm up bands. First out was “house” band with 4 different vocalist (just local heros), one was the Norway contribution to the Eurovision a couple of years back... Basicly they were crap, except vocalist Rene Andersen, great voice but wrong songs. Next up was Fender Benders, also a local showcase band in their 40+ of age, so they could surely play their fenders... This was surely acceptable, next out was another local band. Carnival was also ok, they are a up and coming band. Big influences of AC/DC and Blink 182 styles..

Phew!! Finally we were only waiting for Gary Moore!! 21:30 sharp he entered the stage, looking fresh and ready to rock! Kickin’ off with an rocking version of ‘Oh Pretty Woman’ and the audience are responding with a cheer. A fine standard version of the song, next is ‘Power Of The Blues’ it’s similar to album version, but it works better live than I excepted. It’s rocking and the rhythm sections are pumping a great with Gary’s guitar playing.

The sound in the hall is excellent, I was standing just behind the mixing desk. For the first shows in a while the bass isn’t too loud or Gary’s vocal is too low. The bass and the drums are mixed at the same level as the guitar.  Darrin’s drums sounds terrific, clean and clear, and his rhythm are just awesome. Together with Bob Daisley’s awesome bass playing, this an perfect  trio. They are different than Scars, and Scars was also an awesome trio, with different style.

A song not played at the Belfast and Galway shows, and my favorite from the ‘POTB’ album; There’s A Hole. It sound great live and the solo is awesome, and I enjoy every minute of the song. I am looking forward to hear this song on the possible autumn tour, it will surley develop even more. I am sure it will be amazing live song. Now to an known song to us; ‘All Your Love’. Start of very slow and passionate, before it breaks in to the hard up-tempo part. It’s one of the better version I have heard for some years. The audience are pleased, but very passive. 80% of the audience is seated and in the age between 40-50!

‘Can’t Find My Baby’ is played fine, but it’s nothing extraordinary from the album version. Then we get an other ‘Baby ‘ song, Gary says ‘I Can’t Quit You Baby’ and follows up with some great vocal on the song. Fine solo played and the the band sound really tight. It sounds like they have been playing for ages.......

Darrin Mooney told me after the show that they haven’t reharsed ‘Memory Pain’ for this concert, Gary wanted to play it anyway, and it was really nice surprise to get it live. Gary follow up his great vocal, they get it really great. The song sounds very updated and fresh (I get some vibs to the DDIP & BTTB Sound). I think it nearly is bit better than the album version. Gary does some very passionate guitar playing, it just great to hear Gary and the band making a evening to remember. Then getting to know that they had reharsed it, it just great. ‘Memory Pain’ wasn’t written on the set-list I could read from the mixing desk.

Audience favorite #1, they finally woke up and rise from their chairs! Your guess is right, nothing else than ‘Still Got The Blues’. It’s an ok version, but it’s getting like a walk through!

Next is ‘Since I Met You Baby’ a fine version, with some great guitar playing and with some roaring solos......

First time I get to hear ‘Don’t Believe A Word’ live, he makes terrific slow version. It’s melodic and passionate version, shows alot a feeling with he guitar playing, as he done all the concert. Then changing to the fast version of the song, the drums and bass sounds just amazing keeping the beat and the guitar just keep on rockin’. This version much better than the ‘Monster Of Rock’ version.... much more feeling!!!

Audience favorite #2, ‘Walking By Myself’ and the rise from their chairs again..... With a walk through version, Gary doesn’t give them must space for the sing-a-long response. Gary sounds soar with his singing on this song, that was bothering me bit. Then he ends and says thank you and good night.

First encore is ‘Fire’ and is sounds fresh and rockin’. Darrin and Bob are backing Gary with some awesome playing...... I’m on fire! They do a better version live than the one played live in 1999. Real fire from the trio before the leave the stage a again.

The return one final time to play the audience favorite # 3; Parisienne Walkways. Darrin and Bob keeps a perfect rhythm and Gary follow with nice vocal and passionate guitar playing. Doing a better version than the ‘Monsters Of Rock’, we could witness more feeling and great sound on the guitar. It wasn’t a long version, but a remembering version in Fredrikstad.

This an great evening with Gary Moore and band for about 73 minutes +/-. The audience wasn’t outstanding, as the performer.........

My advice is go and see Gary, and get a great concert. He are in a great mood and has the enjoy for playing.

There were several lucky people getting Gary’s autograf. But no outside, it was chilling cold and Gary should head back to Oslo where he was staying. After the soundcheck he was very pleased to write autografs.

My memory pain was I didn’t get home before 03:30 and just drinking Clausentahler :-))

6th June 2004

Check out the Gary Moore - The Lord Of The Strings for the latest updated news and tour dates (6 shows in June & July confirmed).

The new album Power Of The Blues is to be released tomorrow. I would say was very pleased with it and no instant surprises. It’s a typical Gary Moore album combining his old styles of blues with some rawer sound. Here is a track by track comment from me, how I think of the album.

1. Power Of The Blues
Here get the feeling of leaving the Back To The Blues sound and merging to the Scars sound in terrific mix and change of tempo. Short but great!

2. There Is A Hole
Here Gary Moore really proves his talent with the raw sound with perfectly rhythm section. He keeps the tempo not too fast or slow with this song and really let the guitar do the work. One of my favorite of the album, and the track that shows an new side of Gary Moore.

3. Tell Me Woman
Nice slide and wah wah guitar sounded song, with standard blues lyrics and tune. Getting great memories back to the ‘Still Got The Blues’ album.

4. I Can’t Quit You Baby
This is an nice traditional sounded Gary Moore live song. I got the feeling I heard parts of it before. It was true, it is close to instrumental parts of the re-work version of The Sky Is Crying live from the 2000 tour. It surely brought many great memories from those gigs back in time. This is sure must live number for the summer shows.

5. Thats Why I Play The Blues
Here I get a bit of retro of the After Hours guitar sound. Great song with great feel and melody. With touch from the guitar riffs/licks of Midnight Blues in a different context. A favorite of mine from the album.

6. Evil
Nice version of the cover. Would also been interesting the Scars sound.

7. Getaway Blues
Great getaway song with rawness and allows Gary to travel to his old heavy rock past with short heavy guitar parts. Not forget his Skid Row riffs... he hasn’t for got them either!!!

8. Memory Pain
Finally, Gary serves us a long awaited cover. Espcially after we recorded the “Serves me right to suffer” as the tribute to John Lee Hooker. Great cover and hopefully we gets this live.... with long and raw guitar solos......

9. Can’t Find My Baby
Here my reflections goes to Gary does another BB King styled blues song. It works, it works everytime he does BB King style. It’s surely fitted for live playing, it’s easy to get the rhythm and you get in a good/great mood of.

10. Torn Inside
Why this was a hidden, I don’t know. But it surely a hidden treasure. It’s nice a slow and moody blues tune. It’s a great tribute to Peter Green and his Fleetwood Mac. I get flashbacks to Love That Burns and Peter’s vocal. It’s just amazing great song!

But when it comes down it all, it’s a retro album with a rawer sound. It’s nice to hear Gary uses the old styles of his and his influences. You get an great straight forward blues album with some variations. You get Gary moving towards he 90’s sound with his live sound from the last decade.

This movie was first shown at selected movie theater's in UK back 1997. Now it's available at DVD!!

It took seven years and $2.5 million to film this British modernization of The Changeling (c. 1623) by Thomas Middleton and William Rowley. With period costumes by Elizabeth Emanuel (designer of Princess Di's wedding dress) and scenes of modern-day Spain, the film mixes past and present. Alsemero (Colm O Maonlai) from Valencia loves Alicante's Beatrice (Amanda Ray-King), who's due to marry Alonso (Guy Williams). De Flores (Ian Dury) wants to deflower Beatrice, so when she asks him to kill Alonso, he asks for a payment in sex. The situation gets steamier and riskier when Beatrice has her virginal maid (Julia Tarnoky) slip between the sheets with Alsemero as a wedding-night substitute. Some interior sets were constructed in a parking lot at England's Pinewood Studios. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide
