Gary's Action Zone
------------------------
Welcome!
------------------------
Hello!
It has gone sometime from the last issue to this one. Much has happened as well, a new album, Official Web-Page, Tour, Cancelled concerts, New tour dates added. Well, it's a great time to be a Gary Moore fan.
I have had plans to release this issue for weeks..... But my time has been very limited the last months, at work and private, therefore I have only concentrated on updating the web-page.
In October I manage to take some holiday, and went to UK to see two concerts. I saw the concerts in Manchester and London, I have been writing a review of the two gigs. As I hope you will enjoy.
If there was any lucky ones that usually go to a pub in Kingston, London called The Peel, they certainly saw the surprise gig with Gary Moore and his Band the 7th December. It was only announced 2 days before they played, and it was sold out with 160 lucky people. The played the same set-list as the last gigs in Europe, and Gary's hand injury has healed fine. Thanks to www.gary-moore.com for the info!!
In December issue No. 244 of the UK
magazine Record Collector, Gary Moore revealed an unknown session he did
in '73 at the Trident Studios, an album called 'WAIT TILL THEY CHANGE THE
BACKDROP' by Jonathan Kelly. Gary Moore said it was a shitty session and
nothing to have, when the interviewer asked if it was something to searching
for as collector. Well, I have searched for it and have got the album a
week ago, despite for Gary's comments and many wouldn't be surprised about
my actions........ More info in the Collectors News Section!
Best Regards from.......
Ole-Johan...............

The December issue No 244 of the UK Magazine Record Collector has an interview with Gary Moore, running over 5 pages. Gary is answering many questions about earlier sessions.... as well as taking initative to mention them himself. Very interesting for any Gary Moore fan. So be sure to pick it up..........
Errors in the Record Collector Interview:
Gary Ball, correct is Gary Boyle.
The album is called 'Electric Glide' which features Gary on 2 tracks: 'GAZ'
& HAYABUSA'
Chris Thompson, Gary did infact play
on a couple of tracks with Chris Thompson back in 1983. He play on 'Do
What You Wanna Do' and a Paul McCartney Cover which we don't know the name
of. It was released an an album called 'Out Of The Night' April '83 in

2. COLLECTORS NEWS
------------------
The new session that Gary Moore revealed in the December '99 issue of Record Collector No. 244, an album by Jonathan Kelly called 'WAIT TILL THEY CHANGE THE BACKDROP' released in 1973 by RCA with Cat.nr. SF 8353 in Gatefold sleeve. A Scan of the Sleeve can be found under the news section the GAZ Web-Page. There are following tracks on the album: Wait ‘Till They Change The Backdrop*/Turn Your Eye On Me/Godas*/Down On Me/I Wish I Could*/Chains*/All In A New Light/Hold On/Beautiful Eyes* ( Tracks marked with '*' are without Gary Moore). The fun thing with record was to see the musician featuring on the following four Gary Moore tracks: Turn Your Eye On Me/Down On Me/All In A New Light/Hold On, none of them had an Electric Guitar listed in the cover, but when you hear the songs play, there was surely Eletric Guitar on those songs. The sound/Bending/Picking was unmistakeably Gary Moore's. Well the songs aren't the best, but I have heard worse, the one interesting part is that on the track Hold On' Gary plays Steel Guitar, which we seldom have heard Gary play. The sound of the record reminds me a bit of the Rod Argent album 'Moving Home' on MCA from 1978, and it's surely an album for Gary Moore collectors....so don't dare to miss it!!!
Gary Moore's new album has been released in following countries Europe 27. Sep, US 26. Oct and Japan ??. Nov
There has also been released a 3 Track album sampler from A Different Beat album, containing the tracks: Go On Home\Lost In Your Love\Worry No More. Cat.nr: RAWP 2142 in Blue Cardboard Sleeve
Castle has also released an CD-R Interview disc from A Different Beat, in a white Sleeve with Black Printing, with excerpts from the Interview. Cat.nr: RAWPI 142
Please check out the GAZ Web-Page under the New Releases Section, which is newly been updated with the latest releases.
A new bootleg has been released with Skid Row called 'Whole Lotta Love' on Gypsy Eye Label, cat.nr GE 106. It's taken from the Whiskey club in Los Angels, US. - Tracks: Slow Down/Benedict’s Cherry Wine/Mr De-Luxe/Ramblin’ On My Mind/Goin’ Up The Country/Mad Dog Woman/Girl Called Winter/Honky Tonk Woman/Whole Lotta Love/Got My Mojo Working/Slow Down. The 2 last tracks it' said on the cover to be with John Bonham on the Vocals
I have revised the Related Section of the Discography pages at the web, and have added some more items. If you think I have left out important items that a Gary Moore collector should know about, please let me know and I will surely correct it.
There has also been released a new Notebook for Guitar Tab & Vocal called; Greatest Hits So Far... on IMP, with the Tracks: Cold Day In Hell/Empty Rooms/One Fine Day/Out In The Fields/Over The Hills And Far Away/Parisienne Walkways/Separate Ways/Still Got The Blues/Story Of The Blues/What Are We Here For? - 96 Pages

called 'Resurrection' on the Aces High Label, Limited to 300 Copies and

first, so please let people know through your site!

I've been to the GM show last night in Tilburg, there were about 2200 people (almost sold out).
Gary did perform great with his band and almost all his songs had great and long guitar solo's. He also did like to play and that's a bit different with the last show a saw, which was a short show 70 min. this show was over 2 hours.
I also think that he sould make a choice about his music, because if you only play 3 songs of the new album (Lost in your love, Surrender and Fire) and the other are all oldies..... So if it's gonna be blues he must make new songs......, will it be ADB music he have to play it live so the fans knows what he's doing .......
Anyway it was a great (fantastic) show, with a great GM ......... If you have the change to go you must go............

My opinium about is guitar solo's is that I find them still more rock then Blues, especially the solo's with distortion in them, the clean ones sounds more like blues
But Gary Moore is still the best guitar player in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Emne: Gary's gig to Bruxelles
Dear Ole-Johan,
As you know, Gary is passed Monday at "Ancienne Belgique" in Bruxelles for "A Different Beat" Tour (which is not so different). He gives a very good concert with a this songs like:
Walking By Myself*
Pretty Woman*
Lost In Your Love*
Need Your Love So Bad
I Loved Another Woman
Since I Met You Baby
Surrender
Tore Down (Unknown by me since Monday)
All Your Love
Still Got The Blues*
Fire*
Too Tired
The Sky Is Crying
Further On Up The Road
The Blues Is Alright
Parisienne Walkways*
Tracks with (*) are played with the Les Paul, the other are played with the E-S 355.
It was the first time I see Gary since I heard him, about seven years ago. When he's arrived, he's passed juste near of me, the time to make some photos and only one signature (for the moment).
During the concert, perfomed in a little Hall with nearly 800 to 1000 persons, I was just at his feet, so 2 metres and we've taken many photos in secret, and catch two plectrums which one with the name of Ken (his assistant maybe, do you know him)
At the end, when he's coming out, we've taken again some photos and he has suscribed my ticket, the red promo and the blue promo, and Gary asked me, trough the medium of some one of the staff : What it was because he never saw this disc (joined with this mail but it's still not suscribed).
In some words, A very good concert, it was the first time I saw him but not the latest time because I'll be there the november 21st in Paris for the last concert of this years I suppose.
Thank you very much for all your works because without you, I'll never knew the tour dates.
Read you soon
Yannick

This is the first time I have read
your website and I am impressed.
Of course it does help that I am a
huge fan of Gary Moore.
I thought you might like to hear my
reviews of two concerts that I have recently been to.
The first was on the 5th July, at
Rock City in Nottingham. This was the first time that I had seen Gary in
concert, having listened to (and attempted to play !!!) his music for a
number of years. I managed to get a front row position, and suffice to
say I was blown away (almost literally with the sound). I listen to his
CD's and watch the live videos, and that has the hairs on my neck standing
up, so I can't even begin to describe the feeling I had when he came on
stage and flew into " Walking By Myself ". It was almost surreal at one
point, with me thinking to myself "Is this real? Am I really here?". Sure
enough I was there and what a show. Even the security staff, who normally
don't give the artist a second look, appeared to be watching Gary and not
the audience!!
To top it all the encore was "Parisienne
Walkways". To the hardened Gary Moore concert-goer, this was probably old
hat, but having latched onto Garys' music when he launched his blues era,
I thought I would never see that played live.
The second concert was more recent
at the UEA Norwich, on 29th October when he was promoting his new album.
Having grabbed my spot immediately in front of the microphone, Gary came
out and once again blew me away with his playing (where does he get the
energy and ideas from!). The place was heaving and his new songs were accepted
as much as his older ones. Timeless favourites such as "Need your love
so bad" and "Still got the blues" were absolutely mind-blowing. Then came
the encores, the last being the inevitable, but never dull, "Parisienne
Walkways". I obviously had better things to do than look at my watch (no
not for THAT note!), but at a guess I would say "Parisienne Walkways" went
on for about 15 minutes (any offers), and what a performance. If I never
see another concert again from Gary, then I won't be dissapointed having
seen the UEA gig.
To finish off can you send me details
of how I can get the CD's "Blood of Emeralds - The Best of " parts 1 &
2.
Thanks very much for all your efforts,
and keep up the good work
John

5. GAZ REVIEWS FROM 2 GIG IN
UK
-------------------------------
- Manchester Academy, England - 23. October 1999
Leaving from London about 1000 Friday morning by car for Manchester, with my Gary Moore Fan friends Stefan, Katja & Tomoyuki
The gig was sold out, it wasn’t the best concert place I have seen, but I have seen worse.....
The gig started right on 2030 as announced.....
Gary kicked off with a good version
of Walking By Myself, which got the audience in fire. Continued with another
fine version of Oh Pretty Woman ( I didn’t fancy the DDIP Tour version,
too much reggae bass line). Then a new song Lost In Your Love, it works
ok. But it needs some more practics. The drummer keeps the beat great,
and there is some great guitar playing. I bet this gets better on the end
of the tour. Before he slowed it down with beautiful version of Need Your
Love So Bad, just so short..... and followed up with fine version of I
Loved Another Woman, as well too short. When he played them in Drobak they
was much longer, about 2-3 minutes. Still remember the version he did of
I Loved Another Woman in Drobak in August, 9 minutes of total excitement...
Next was an ok version of Since I met you baby, followed by great version
of Surrender. Great guitar solo, the audience went wild.....
Tore Down was done in much better way that the last time I heard it, sounded more like a band, and didn’t sound as much as The Stumble, as it did in Drobak. Followed by a good version of All Your Love, which Gary always plays well. Next was the highlight for the audience; Still Got The Blues, which was done in a standard 6 minutes version. This song is now played by routine, and not with pure feelings....... But the Audience loved it...... For me and many that I know, have had enough of the song, Gary doesn’t bring new elements to the song as he used to, as he does with the other slow songs.... I simply call it Still Got Enough (Of It).........
Fire, sounds great and much better than in Drobak, the vocal part has been changed to the better. He does a really good version of the song. Works with great the audience as well........ The fastet and rockiest song on the set... Next up is Too Tired, which was not special..... Then he makes a great version of The Sky Is Crying, which is different to the previous tours..... He has altered a bit of the song, different intro, and some slow/quiet parts between the solos. It sounds great....... followed by Further On Up The Road which was great... Gary showed some great playing. The audience was getting more excited, great keyboard/guitar duell between Gary and Vic........ like you remembered the early 90’s live shows.... and you just were missing Albert Collins (R.I.P) to be there too........
Then it was time for a short break.....
The first encore was The Blues Is Alright, which is a song that can get quite boring when you have heard it too many times. But this time Gary proved different, also got the audience to sing very well. So you felt very good, a great version......
Next and last was of course Parisienne Walkways......... It was done quite ok, a bit different than the other ones. Here he also had altered the song a bit, not the normal version we have heard for years......
It was a good concert and the sound
was fine, except for too much bass on the 3 first numbers...
- Shepherds Bush Empire, London, England - 24. October 1999
Here we go again........ after some sleep, 3 hours to be right...... first there was a record fair to check out, nothing much to find there... but it was need to check out... A bit of sightseeing in London of course....... except of the record stores......which it’s usual places that I go.... before the gig we had to try out an Indian restaurant in Baywater, which delayed the arrival to the gig several minutes. (Sorry Phil, we try meet another time)
Again we get to hear another fine version of Walking By Myself and Oh Pretty Woman. This time Lost In Your Love is much better, great vocal and guitar..... this song can really get somewhere live............... There are also recognizable samples from ‘Always There For You’ from the DDIP Tour. Then we get Need Your Love So Bad, another fine version. He really plays it with much more passion than he does with ‘STGB’ live. Just to enjoy.......
I Loved Another Woman, one of my favorite slow songs done by Peter Green, Gary shows us again a fine version of the song with lots of passion and feeling, still too short...... all you want to do is to dream away when you hear Gary playing it live.... then he cracks up the slow mood with the very fine Since I met You Baby, he does a good version and better than in Manchester. After this, we get Surrender from the ADB album, which is much better than in Manchester. The Drummer even tries to be creative and it works very fine. The solo in end of Surrender is great. There are some reflections to the song Beast Of Burden on the ‘One Good Reason’ CD-Single. It’s Great, It’s Gary Moore...... Like WE want him.....
Tore Down kicks off in good way, shakes off our relaxed mood. It’s time to move some...... This song gets better and better everytime I hear it...... Maybe we get it on the next Blues album?? And then it fades into a great version of All Your Love, and the audience are with us so far. They are excited and pleased with what they hear...........
They even get more excited with the first notes of the next song comes out of the speakers.... Your all time favorite, Still Got The Blues....... in another 6 minutes version....... But I do say for the first time Gary impress me a bit with this version....... it’s a bit more feelings in his playing...... and I am looking for the next song FIRE, it really kick some ass. Too short though, great guitar, but I miss some of the guitar improvisations he did in the beginning of the song as he did in August. Next is an great version of Too Tired, much better than yesterdays, a great keyboard/Guitar duell between Gary and Vic. It seems they didn’t get tired of that........ followed by an great version of The Sky Is Crying..... and where Gary breaks a string after a couple of notes. So he has to change from the Les Paul to the red Gibson ES 335, which has a different sound than the Les Paul. That even made this version much different and better in a way. Next up was Further On Up The Road which became an disappointment to be, not the same power and enjoyment that yesterday.
Then the break, before the encores
First out this time as well The Blues Is Alright done in ok way, but nothing special. It got one of those boring versions. Even the audience didn’t response and singing was’t good as yesterday. And I was starting to look forward to Parisienne Walkways........ but that didn’t work to well either, especially when Gary made more rock version out of it . Bending the string and playing more effects... most of the audience enjoyed it, since it reminded the most likely about the old days........
My overall opinion about the 2 shows
is that they was good, Gary deliver what you can expect. But they are far
as good as the one show I saw in Drobak in August this year.... That was
one of the best Gary Moore shows I have seen so far, even the Skanderborg
show are reported to be the same good, according to Stefan that was there
and on these 2 shows. I will surely advise you to go and see the new shows
in March 2000. I will surely try to see one or two shows...... Where I
don’t know, probably Oslo and London looks attempting. Will have to check
out if there are some big record fairs that weekend.
