It can be everything records info, scans of records, pictures etc..,

As some of you might know.... Teenage Idol from Victims On The Future album released in '83 Japan Cat.nr VIL 6083, this version is different compared to the version appearing on the records released in the rest of the world. The song has the same time, but the guiatr solo is different, but better after my opinion. So if you haven't discovered this before, dig out your Japanese copy. Thanks Tomouki to point out this!

For DDIP release in US, See comment earlier in this issue. Gary hasn't toured US since '87, except for 3 gigs in '92 with 'After Hours' album.
I have seen Gary 3 times in New York state. 84.87& 92. Somebody had told me they saw him in 89 and I just could not believe I missed hearing about him playing . This has bothered me for years that some how I missed an Opportunity, to see "The Best Guitar player ever" again. I am actually glad to read that he didn't tour here in 89. whoever said that must have meant 87. This the 5th year without a US tour. Sure do wish this will be the year he comes back.

Subject: Alas - Never Managed to Meet
Him
I met Thin Lizzy in the fall of 1977 and spent a fair amount of time (as much as I was able to, at least) with them for the next four years. Unfortunately, however, I missed ever getting to meet Gary Moore. I had of course heard so much about him from both the band and the crew that I felt like I knew him already, but that's no substitute for the real thing!
Being a native of Dallas, Texas, my love of blues music is most likely genetic and Gary is one of the best. I have always thought of blues as an analogy for sex and "Blues Alive" has provided many hours of pleasure (pun intended). When can we expect another one?!
Oh well, at least return to Dallas soon - okay?

To Whom It May Concern:
I am a HUGE Gary Moore fan. What will it take for him to tour the United States? I realize he was on the east and west coasts during the "Blues Alive" recording, but I would like the chance to see him live (and meet him if possible). I live in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Subject: new collections
Hi Ole-Johan,
I was looking at the pre-release page of the U.S. import dealer Thoughtscape Sounds and saw these listed:
Gary Moore; Out in the Fields + 12 (2CD) Ltd.; $26.99
Gary Moore; Best (2CD) (J) w/ Singles, Hits, Rarities and Live; Due 10/7/98; $28.99
Were you aware of these and do you have any info as to what's going to be on them? Gary has SO many non-LP cuts, alternate mixes, live singles, etc. you could fill a 4-CD box set with them!
Some day, someone will release a proper version of "Back on the Streets" and include "Track Nine," all the different versions of "Spanish Guitar," the Gary & Phil different vocal versions of the album's cuts and that that other outtake that's on a bootleg I've never heard. Ah, dreams...
I'm assuming the rare stuff will be all Virgin material and no MCA. Are you in contact with Gary, his management or anyone at the label (to make some suggestions)? One thing I hope they don't forget about was the killer live version of "The Loner," which came out on 12" only because there was a CD pressing strike or some boycott of CD singles that prevented it from being released on CD. Also, it fades out (even though it's live) so it would be nice to hear the full version.
Having spent so much money over the years on his various CD singles, I'm assuming there's no way they can fit ALL the non-LP cuts onto a set, and I hope they don't! I'd rather hear things like "Blinder" that haven't been on CD in any form. I guess we'll find out soon, but I hope there's been some knowledgable fan input, since when labels do these things on their own, there's always things they are unaware of...
Take care...looking forward to the next issue.
Geof

Subject: Gary in Belfast
Hi there!
While in Ireland recently I finally had a chance to visit Dunluce Castle (I couldnt get the theme from 1989s "After the War" out of my head there) and Belfast. It may be too late now, but while I was there I was wondering where did Gary grow up or spend a lot of time in his youth? This should probably become the place for a pilgrimage by all music lovers coming to Belfast (the tourist office didnt have a clue...). Anybody got any information or do you consider this as messing around in Garys private affairs too much?
All the best

Jack Bruce & Friends
Ashburnham Activity Centre, London
July 17, 1998
I turned up at the Ashburnham Activity Centre in Chelsea in London with GAZ regulars Ole and Tomoyuki ready to see Jack Bruce & Friends play a very 'intimate' show for charity. A crowd of about 200 other people were on hand to see a spirited performance from the trio.
What a great night it was too ! The venue was very small but lended to the atmosphere. Prior to the gig, I was a little worried that the fact that this was an unpublicised gig for the band would lead to the whole event to being a rather quiet affair.
How wrong I was ! Jack Bruce, Gary Moore and Gary Husband jumped on stage a tad after 10:30 p.m. and launched into a series of Cream songs, a few covers and other odds and ends. The sound was particularly good and the band revelled in the chance to do a little improvisation in their performance.
The highlight for me was a lively version of the BBM song 'City Of Gold'. Moore seemed to really punch out the driving rythym behind it and it had the crowd bopping. Gary seemed to enjoy playing the songs immensely and although he deliberately played sideman to Jack Bruce, his guitar playing made sure that he was not going to be forgotten !!
He used the second of his 1959 Les Paul guitar for the entire gig and although his guitar tech had a Gibson SG ready to go, it never saw action that night. The sound was characteristically loud and powerful.
Stylistically, I felt that Gary played his solos in a more restrained mode than he normally would for his own material. He seemed to want to create the feel of the pieces as first played by Cream all those years ago. Where a normal flurry of notes might have been expected, Gary tended to opt for a more poignant phrasing. It just goes to show how many strings are in his bow!
So, to wrap up - it was a gig that was very enjoyable due largely to the relaxed surroundings that it was played in. During the night, I saw many people peeping though the fences looking quite surprised to see 2 of the UK's rock legends belting it out ! It was the second time that I had seen Gary play and on this performance alone, it wont be the last !

Sweden will release their own Sleeve and Booklet of the cover, with special

be release an tape, with some extra tracks compared to the 1CD issue, the
tape will also contain Stop Messin' Around, Devil In Her Heart, Emerald
& Livin' In Dreams (Remix).
My opinion as Gary Moore fan of this
'Best Of', Comments to the first disc;
Songs that I miss from this 'Best
Of' are; I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow, Cold Hearted, Hold On To Love, Rockin'
Every Night, Victims Of The Future & Shapes Of Things?? to get the
a wider range of Gary's music styles. For my sake I wouldn't die if they
had cut out Run For Cover, Friday On My Mind, Empty Rooms '85, Still Got
The Blues & Parisienne Walkways (Live). With 'Ballads & Blues'
in mind I can't see the reason to put the three same songs on the 'Best
Of', for me the 'Ballads & Blues' are the 'Best Of' of Gary's Ballads.
I am sure in the future we could see the light of double disc set with
'Out In The Fields' & 'Ballads &and Blues' packing on a budget
price! I also think the selection from Gary's two first albums on Virgin/10
Records are disappointing few. I don't know what teh compilers had in mind,
but I am sure many fans from the early times will miss songs from that
era. I also think about wouldn't be nice to end this 'Best Of' with 'Sunset'
from 'Rockin' Every Night/Live In Japan'??
Comments to the second disc;
The Disc are ok, except for the CD-Single
available Live Tracks. But I do miss 'Blinder', 'Ready For Love (12" Remix)',
The Loner (Extended Version). I am sure these tracks would have made the
second disc even more interesting for an average fan as for an die hard
fan.
For me this second disc are sort of
some kind of left hands work
Comments in General:
I suppose you think I very negative
to this 'Best Of', maybe I am, who knows. But I try to see the improvements
needed from an fan (die hard) point of view, and I am quite fed up will
all the 'Best Of's put out by Record Companies today. Mainly on one goal
to sell to most, and forgetting the musical interest in the artist. I suppose
most of us can make an decent 'Best Of' with artists we are enjoying. Most
of all I am dissapointing of Virgin's way of handling this, especially
when they left out many of the great songs from the two first albums, and
lack of interesting tracks on the 'Collectors Disc'. As we also know the
artist has to approve it, but who much effort should you use when you are
finished with the Record Company. When this 'Best Of' idea was launched
in Fall '95, which there was an suggested tracklisting including one or
two unreleased songs. This was not perfect either, that one had two Lizzy
songs from 'Black Rose'.
Anyway folks, end of my 'Negative Comments' NOW! I would like to hear your comments. How you approach your comments about the 'Best Of' it's up to you.
