Gary's Action Zone

Welcome!
------------------------
I am back from another Gary Moore concert, and I am very sorry for the delay of this issue!
I have been on a 14 days holiday from end of August before I went to Hell, and after that till I attended the Copenhagen show I have been 'nearly' living at work. That's the reason why I haven't been able to update my web-pages and not answering all the e-mails I have got. I hope you understand that I have to priority my work before my hobby.
NOTE! a new address to my web-page: http://home.sol.no/~gaz/
GAZ has passed 300 members since last issue!
What happened at Hell! Much of interest actually, more to come later in this issue and the next issues. I met interesting people like Gary Moore + the crew, Andy Pyle, Peter Green, Bernie Marsden, Svante Pettersson and last not least Lennart Hedenstroem (GAZ editor) . It's was nice to see him again, as change in between all the e-mails between us.
All the tour dates will appear will the original set-list of the summer festivals and being noted with 'NOT VERIFIED'. All other dates are confirmed and features with the played set-list. We will not list separately Concert set-list, unless it's included in the review. All Set-list can be accessed from the GAZ site at the Tour Dates pages, with clicking on the concert date.
We are also planning to release FAQ regarding Gary Moore end of '97, so we ask you to send in questions about Gary Moore 'backman@online.no', any question are of interest! Don't be shy! It's hard to know all of your questions, things I take for granted, you might wonder about!
Next issue is planned in November!
Best Regards.......
Ole-Johan...............

Subject: DDIP review
Hi Ole! This is the last time. I am sorry for separated messages. I forgot to tell about some music magazine where in the section of new releases I've found the review of DDIP.
There was written that releasing this album Gary was looking for new audience that would bring him more "output". Was nothing really said about tracks. Except "Always There For You": it was said something about style called drum'n'bass. Also, was mentioned that Gary had very limited vocal. That's what I can remember. Hope it'll help somehow.
Bye!

Hallo there,
Since I had the chance to meet Gary Moore in Germany in 1991 I have not missed any opportunity to see him live(-1993 Germany, London since then)as he not only has a lovely personality, but is also one of the best performers of this century for me.
Unfortunately these days you do not see much of him, the more angry I am that I missed the concert in the Shepard's Bush Empire. Only a week previous to that gig I was there and did not see anything advertised, nor did I read anything in the papers! Now that I am connected to the Net, I will visit this site more often, but that does not erase the problem of the lack of promotion and tour announcements!
I hope he will be booked for another UK gig, so people like me who missed out in June have a chance to see Gary Moore live in 1997 and do not have to wait for another year.

Excellent Web site - very useful and informative!
Do you have any details of a UK Fan Club for Gary Moore? I am disappointed that I missed the London Show in June as I didn't know about it! Do you know if he plans to tour in the UK in the near future?
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
I have recently bought Dark Days in Paradise by Gary Moore on CD.
I have only heard him once before, (not live though) when they played a record of his on the chart show on Saturday afternoon.
I can't even tell you what the song was, but I enjoyed the sound so much, that his name stuck like a stone in the back of my brain.
The only thing I can say about DDIP is that after playing it and playing it over the last three weeks that I have had it, I only wish to God that I had bought his records earlier. He is brilliant. The guitar music on this album is phenomonal.
I am a converted fan. I will definitely be buying more of his albums if DDIP is anything to go by.
Once I get my webpage sorted out, i will definitely be putting a link to this page on it.
Keep up the good work.

had your webpage bookmarked for a while and have finally checked up on

bit of a flash back to the rock/ballad material, not that there was anything
wrong with the blues period though....

Hello, I'm a fan of Gary Moore, but I prefer his bluesy, yet overdriven distorted sound, similar to "Still Got the Blues"... If you have any suggestions for me of GM's distorted guitar stuff, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Subject: GAZ - Review: Mannheim, Capitol
Hallo!
On October 3rd Gary Moore played in
Mannheim.
The venue "Capitol" is not too big
and was sold out with about 500 people (I guessed some more, but my friend
some less, so thats the average guess). There was no support group and
he started short after 8pm.
Set list and comments:
One Good Reason
Good song to start, better than
on DDIP, because more guitar and less
strings.
One Fine Day
One of my favourites of DDIP
and even better live.
Cold Wind Blows
Avarage, but keeps speed until
Like Angels.
Like Angels
Very fine version.
All Your Love
Was played with a bit more distortion.
It seemed some people waited for the Blues songs and Gary got more response
from the audience.
Always There For You
Played different than on DDIP,
more guitars.
Oh Pretty Woman
Nothing special.
Still Got The Blues
Now everybody was happy.
Walking By Myself
Much singing of the audience.
Busines As Usual
Even more than 13 Min. Great
!
Out In The Fields
A lot of people jumping and
shouting. This was their favourite ! During the solo his guitar sounds
like a police car.
encore:
Over The Hills And Far Away
No special version, but much
response from the audience.
encore:
Parisienne Walkways
Very long ending, because everybody
wanted more and more. Gary could not give up and Guy Pratt was just
standing and scratching his head until Gary recognized this and they
ended the song. Then the band introduction: Magnus Fiennes, Guy Pratt and
Gary Husband.
A great show ended at 10pm. Gary was in very good shape and played nearly perfect. He seemed to have a lot of fun. Unfortunately there was no merchandising at the show, so I could'nt get a poster or a T-shirt.
Berthold.

Ole-Johan,
Here my review of the Offenbach show.
After a 4 hour drive we arrived at the Stadshalle in Offenbach am Main. It's a small place for, there is only room for 1000-1500 people. There is only a GM show so it won't be too late. At 20:30 hour Gary starts his show A lot of noise from the most eldery !!!! audiance. I think that most of the people are over 35.
Fisrt song is one good reason. nice song live with a great guitar sound. The sound in the Stadshalle is great I'm standing front row about 2 mtr from the maestro himself. One Good reason automatically goes on in One Fine day sounds live better then om the album. Gary play's on a Gibson ( a Jazz model).
Next song is Cold wind Blows, I only like the end of the song so for me with Always there for you the two songs I don't like that much. Then Gary play's the great Like Angels, with his two great guitar solo's and the part with the screw-driver. It is a fantastic song and the audiance is getting better and better.
After this song it goes on with the old Ottis Redding song All your love, he plays it a little slower then I was used to but it's a good blues song. Now the show is really going on and it looks like his enjoy's himself he has the funny faces when he is playing his solo's the next song is Oh pretty Woman I thought it was a little bit slower then the last time I heard it live.
Next song his biggest selling hit he ever had Still got the Blues great song great performed.
Time for some action with Walking by myself the noise of the audiance looks like he is playing for 5000-6000 people.
After this song two more songs from Dark day's in paradise. Always there for you and Bussines as Usual (15 min). As I saw on your play list from the Norway show after Bussines it's time for some Oldies so me and my Friends started singin Out in the Fields
A little smile on his face and he started it it was great to hear him do a rock song live. I heard this song for the last time live April 5 1989. Only the break was to much a reggea sound. This was the regular show.
After 5 minutes of a lot of noise like ZUGABE, WE WANT MOORE and WIJ WILLEN MEER that is we want moore in Dutch. He's comming back and does Over the hills and far away. After this song I think he likes to play (HARD-) Rock again and I think he must do that again. Again he leaves the stage and comes back after a lot of noise and almost 10 minutes.
For his last song Parisienne Walkways I have seen more then 15 GM shows and never he played that song in one of these shows so only for this song I really like to see this show. Gary almost ends his shows with long guitar ballads, some examples: 1987 Wild Frontier tour THE LONER ( 13 Minutes) 1989 After the war tour THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN ( 10 Minute) 1990 Still got the blues tour THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN, 1992 After hours tour JUMPIN' AT SHADOWS, and now Parisienne Walkways
I thought it was a great show a little bit weird because of the different music styles. There were some people who walked away by the OLDIES with the fingers in there ears. I think he likes playing but I still don't understand why he canceld so much shows the last years.
I hope that the DDIP tour will go on and comes to Holland so I can see a second show
Playlist: One Good Reason, One fine day, Like angels, All your Love, Oh Pretty woman, Still got the Blues, Walking by Myself, Always there for you, Bussines As Usual, Out in the Fields, Encores: Over the Hills and Far Away, Parisienne Walkways
This is my review, if you have any
questions let me know.
BTW: there were no T-Shirts for sale,
is this the same as in Norway.

Subject: Gary Moore - October 12,
1997 Copenhagen, Vega
"Could there be any better way to end a weekend in one of the world's most beautiful cities than to see for the first time ever Gary Moore in action? This is exactly what I did when Gary played his final concert in Copenhagen on Sunday night.
Without any fanfare, Gary came on stage a couple of minutes after 8 p.m. and launched right into "One Good Reason". The sound of his Gibson ( an ES 335 I think ) was characteristically brilliant, a sign of the good things to come. During his 90 minutes on stage, he gave his guitars no respite as he attacked them with incredible vervour, playing a mix of his newer and older material that gelled well together.
The overwhelming crowd favourite was "Walking By Myself" where Gary churned out a stomping 12 bar blues to the delight of all and sundry. I was surprised at just how ggod this was live. As a big blues fan, the 12 bar can get a little tedious at times !
One of several highlights for me was his performance of the intensely personal "Business As Usual" song. He used a Fender Stratocaster for the whole song, set up so that it would sound like an acoustic. His celtic solo ( with the guitar set to a more conventional electric mode ) at the end of the song transported me to another plane as I just succumbed to the music that he played.
Just when you needed a breather, the intro to "Out In The Fields" starts playing through the speakers and shortly thereafter, the band blasted off into a blistering version of the song. Within the extended slower section, Gary demonstrated his tremendous abilities to make the guitar talk, producing an astonishing array of sounds from it. Needless to say, the crowd were very appreciative.
When it came time for the final encore of the night, I saw the man's guitar tech preparing the 159 Tiger stripe Les Paul for action ( not the Peter Green one ). I instantly realised that 'Parisienne Walkways' was on the cards. The opening notes brought a cheer from the crowd and Gary played the song with a great deal of emotion. When the time came for the long note in the middle, he hammed up the act a little. Realising that he wasn't in the correct place on stage to get the feedback to his satisfaction, he brought the note to a close after about 5 seconds and playfully admitted defeat. Then he took a step forward and tried again, this time holding it for a good thirty odd seconds, unleashing the power of the phenonemal Gibson in his hands.
When the final note was struck, I prayed that it would never end but you know what they say about all good things . . .
So there you have it. I wouldn't dare to call this review unbiased as this was my first Gary Moore concert. However, after talking to the members of the Danish Gary Moore society, they all concurred that it was one of the finest shows that they had ever seen him play ( and these people have seen a fair few of his shows ).
I was just glad to see the man whose music has had a large influence on my life."

5. FEATURE: GARY JAM at HELL
BLUES FESTIVAL
-------------------------------------------
Hi,
Here are a few line on the Saturday night jam session that happened at the Hell Blues Festival in Norway in September. Gary Moore played a regular concert on the Friday and was talked into staying until the next day by his old mate Bernie Marsden so they could have a blues jam. Local papers also states Gary Moore did some acoustic jamming with Marsden in a pub late Friday night. For my full report from the Hell Blues Festival go to the "Specials" section of my Northern Light webpage: http://hem.passagen.se/ctc
The jam started out with this band:
Bernie Marsden - guitar, vocals
Tony Ashton - keyboards, vocals
Henry Spinetti - drums
Mark Feltham - harmonica
Colin Hodgkinson - bass, vocals
After about an hour Bernie Marsden in troduced the special guest, enter Gary Moore (guitar, vocals). Here is the set they played after Moore got on stage:
Time Song Vocals
0:15 Tore Down Marsden
A Freddy King number.
0:20 I Loved Another Woman Moore
A Peter Green track which probably
was very special for both Marsden and Moore since Peter Green sat on the
balcony the whole set. They have both recorded Peter Green tribute albums
fairly recently.
0:25 All Your Loving Moore
0:34 Going Down Slow Marsden
A slow John Lee Hooker blues
number, which Marsden dedicated to the blues giant Hubert Sumlin who were
to play at this year's Hell Blues Festival but cancelled since he got a
serious heart condition just prior to the festival.
0:42 Stop Messin' Around Moore
0:50 Waling By Myself
Moore
0:56 --------- <they leave the
stage> ---------
0:58 Standing At The Crossroads Marsden
1:06 Goin' Down
Marsden
Marsden and Moore duelled furiously throughout the set and they had huge smiles on their faces all the time!
