NORMAL

Adressed to Dana Beal

Hey Dana,
This is Zach in Normal, IL.

We held our march on friday may 3rd, because we figured that we could draw many of the students who hadn't heard about the event when they were en route to class.

The event exceded our expectations. Over the course of the day, something near to 1,000 people showed up (we were giving away free posters - we started with over 1,000 and finished with 10).

At any given time of the day, there were about 200 people.

Our march took us through downtown Normal, a conservative central Illinois town and the home of Illinois State University; made a pit stop outside the city hall/police station: and then returned to the quad via the same route.

The whole time on the march, we were being cheered on by local business owners and the inconvenienced traffic. All in all the day was more successful than we could have hoped.

When all was said and done, we were able to set up a new registered student organization on the ISU campus called Mobilizing Activists and Students for Hemp, or MASH for short.

We increased our membership to over 100 students and raised nearly $1000 for future efforts.

The day was so inspiring for all of us that we are already hatching a plan to hold a drug policy/debate/festival in October.

One more thing. If you would like to see pictures of our event, visit www.mashaction.org And if you wouldn't mind, please update our contact info to the following:
