Chico

We smoked out with Granny Grass at the 2002 Marihuana March in Chico CA.

The Chico March was a smokin' success! We estimated around 420 marchers filled the streets of Downtown Chico with the sweet smell of cannabis and the sweet sounds of unity.

The march started at the Free Speech Area at Chico State University around 2:30. At the same time the Days Of Chico was taking place in the same area. The local 215-support group B.A.M.M. (Butte Alliance for Medical Marihuana) stuck out like a green thumb amongst the vendors and craft tents of the event. There was no hostility towards us from the non-smokers. In fact, we were the most popular table there. People who probably never intended to join us did so when they saw the 5 inch # 45 sativa/indicia plant sitting with our literature.

We assembled, lit up, and started the march that took us around downtown Chico with the sounds of honking and cheering from passersby. Even the Chico Fire Dept. honked their loud horn in support.

Adrian A. wheeled activist Granny Grass who held my pro 215 sign as we marched around the city streets.
We smoked, laughed and cheered as we made our way to the giant hands statue where the main members of BAMM
(including myself) spoke out and rallied the people into a screaming frenzy of chants and cheers of support.

The only police that we saw was attending to a drunk driver that hit another car along the marcherís route.
We started chanting, ědonít drink and driveî as we passed by the poor bastard who was getting the field sobriety test. The cops just watched us pass with quiet amusement. It wrapped up with a countdown to 4:20 when the remaining stragglers gathered in a circle and smoked in a peaceful ceremony then disbanded.

The media was out there. Local CBS affiliate interviewed a few of us, and most of the local papers were there as well. Overall it was a raving success.

Sincerely,

Byron S.
BAMM member & activist.
