History and activities

Førde Rotaryclub was established 8th of March 1966, after two years of preparations. The club's first president was district veterinary Einar Ladehaug. During the first years the meetings were held at Førde hotel. When Sunnfjord hotel (now Rica Sunnfjord Hotell) opened in the late sixties, the meetings were held there.

The meetings

The club has always had its meetings on mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, and these weekly events are the most important activity in the club, developing friendship and knowledge, who are central qualities in Rotary. The meetings also provide important information about the organisation itself, varoius professional fields represented in the club, in addition to local, regional, national and international news.

The newsletter "Bodstikka"

"Bodstikka" was first published in 1970. Among the issues in the newsletter are acitivity reports and topics of current interest about Rotary. The club's logo is "the fjording" (fjord horse), beacuse of this breeds strong position in this area. It can be found on the newsletter and on the club's streamer.

 

Local involvement

Førde Rotaryclub has started and accomplished many projects during the last years, mainly in connection with leisure activities and cultural events, including projecting, restoration and maintenace of public areas, ski tracks, parks and houses, participation in local and national actions and help for elderly people.

Youth exchange

The club has received two youth exhange students, two girls from USA and Australia. The club has also sent two female students to USA and New Zealand. Førde Rotaryklub has also been host for Rotary Youth Camps several times.

The club has also received 'study groups' from USA, South Africa, Australia, Japan, Nigeria and Turkey. The members have stayed in Førde for some days. The club has also had participants at GSE (Group Study Exchange) in USA, India, Brasil, Nigeria, Japan and Australia, as well as group leadership for GSE in Japan.

District governors

Førde Rotaryclub has "delivered" 3 governors for D-2250, Georg R. Thingvold (1981/82), Karl Magnar Lausund (1993/94) and Grunde Selås (1998/99). The club arranged the annual "District Conference" in 1982 og 1999.

Førde Rotaryclub contributes regularly to Rotary Foundation. In 1999 the club was this districts largest contributor. The club has appointed 4 members (in addition to one non-member) to PHF (Paul Harris Fellows).
