Foça has an amazing variety of activities to offer visitors. The list below
represents only a sample of things to do.

                New Beach

Foca has an excellent new beach, developed in 2007, to the south of the town. It is located only 1,5 kilometres from the town centre and is served by minibus. It has a cafeteria, lavatory and showers.

                Village visit

Visit a working village - meet the people. Explore the surrounding hills and picnic under an olive tree. Try/buy local crafts and village produce. Further information from the tourist office or ring 0538 940 3343.

                Sailing

Sailing is a popular activity for youngsters in Foça. We can arrange for small boat hire (Optimist or Lazer), with or without instruction, from the local yacht club.

Ornithology

There is an interesting bird sanctuary between Izmir and Foça, which is ideal for those wishing to study local birdlife.

Archaeology

Did you know that the world's second oldest ampitheatre is located in Foça? Neither did archaeologists until recently, and the excavations are still not complete. These, and others from anchient times, are free for you to explore.

Painting

Watercolours or oils, you will find that you are challenged to master the rich colour spectrum offered by the Aegean sea and the sun-baked sandstone. Seascapes, landscapes and still-life subjects abound, and people will sit for a group for a fraction of a model's rate in other countries - fully clothed however, this is a Moslem country.

Eating out

You do not need to visit the same restaurant twice even in two weeks in Foça. Each has its own speciality to offer, and remember that the Turkish cuisine is second only to France and China in its variety and choice.

Sea-fishing

Have you ever had a restaurant prepare fish that you caught earlier in the day for your family and friends? This is so easy when you take a day trip with a local fisherman.

Shopping

Local shops, markets and the large bazar in Izmir all offer unbeatable value for leather, gold and silver, carpets, kilims, ceramics and spices. Some shops have fixed prices for those who do not enjoy haggling.

Boat trips

In addition to the hire of local fishing boats, larger boats and yacht charter can be arranged at the quay side.

Ferry to Lesbos

Foça now boasts a 4 times a week ferry service to Mytilini on the Greek island of Lesbos. The trip takes two hours and costs 38 Euro return.

Historic sites

Foça is centrally placed for visits to historical and Biblical sites such as Ephesus and Pergamon. Don't forget mythology either - the Siren rocks from the Odyssey are only five kilometers from the town.

Vineyards

Turkey is not especially well-known for its wines, but local vinyards and vintners are more than willing to let you sample what is produced in the region.

Turkish bath

You will feel thoroughly refreshed and tingling after a soapy massage by a professional masseur.
