28.01.10: "En helt vanlig dag på jobben" - Feature Film Teasers
In 2007 the ex. Gossip / Paparazzi journalist, Håvard Melnæs, released a book entitled "En helt vanlig dag på jobben" (A normal day at work).
The book describes the inner workings of Norway's most popular sleazy-gossip-magasin "Se og Hør".
The magazine has been accused of using extreme measures when digging into the privacy of celebrities and the royal family. Often spreading heaps of hearsay and lies in their path.
Only proving that people do anything for money, including some of the celebrates themselves.
I just finished grading three cinema-teasers together with DOP Philip Øgaard.
The teasers give the first peek into the twisted world of commercial-journalism.
The movie premieres the Norwegian cinemas on March 12th
2010.

30.12.09: "Orkestergraven" - TV Drama Online & VFX
"Orkestergraven" is based on a book by the popular Norwegian author,
Unni Lindell. Several of her books have already been adapted for television.
I was the Online Editor for the series, and did all of the VFX-shots.
The VFX were mainly sky-replacements, CCTV-screen inserts, greenscreen comping, paint / roto and making it snow.
NRK1 starts airing the three part crime drama, Monday 04.01.10 at 21:30.

30.12.09: "Olsenbanden Jr Mestertyvens Skatt" - Feature Film Online
This is the sixth Olsenbanden Jr movie.
The franchise has had great success at the Norwegian box-office.
I had the pleasure to be the Online Editor on the feature,
and the Colourist for the Cinema Trailer and
TV-commercials.
The feature contained quite a lot of VFX-shots, all of which where handled by Storm Studios.
Earlier this year Storm received
a BVE-award (Best Visual Effects) for the
VFX-work on the previous Olsenbanden JR movie,
"Det Sorte Gullet".
Mestertyvens Skatt" hits the cinemas on the
29th of January 2010.

30.12.09: “Rødt, Hvitt og Skrått” - Tv series intro sequence and graphics
The last thing I did for my former employer, Fabelaktiv, was to grade the
intro sequence and design graphics for “Rødt, hvitt og skrått”.
The 4-part-series covers the history of the norwegian gay community
for the last 30 years.
The series premieres on NRK1, Monday 04. January 2010 at 22:30.
My girlfriend,Anja, drew the curly graphical
elements
for the logo.
Then I took the illustrations
into After Effects and added the neon sign look.
Grading and online was done in Autodesk Smoke.
The director said: “Go wild!”, so we did just that. Enjoy!

05.12.09: "En ganske snill mann" - Feature Film Online & VFX
I've really been looking forward to work on this movie.
Originally named "Regnskap" (Bad Accounting), the title was changed to
"En ganske snill mann" (A Somewhat Gentle Man) a couple of weeks ago.
The cast includes Stellan Skarsgård, accompanied by a killer lineup of well known Norwegian actors.
Skarsgård portrays Ullrik, a small time criminal that has recently been let out of prison after serving a 12 year sentence. He tries to get his life back on track, getting to know his son
and generally staying out of trouble.
The last part proves to be difficult due to Ullrik's devious friends.
The movie is directed by the acclaimed director Hans Petter Moland,
who has worked with Skarsgård on several other movies in the past.
This black-comedy will certainly make you smile, even though it has a serious undertone.
DOP Philip Øgaard's astounding imagery enhances
the story's
slightly "gritty" environment.
I feel really privileged to be able to work with so many talented filmmakers.
My role was: RED-Conform, Online Editing and VFX for the feature, in addition to
Online & Colourgrading 3 x cinema teasers.
"En ganske snill mann" is still in post-production and will be
released sometime in 2010.

27.09.09: "Da Damene Dro" (Season 2) - TV Show Grading & Online
This autumn I'll be colour-grading and onlining several
popular TV-shows.
It's been a while since I've worked on "Reality TV", but it's always interesting to work on different types of projects. There is always something new to learn, and plenty of nice people to collaborate with.
"Da Damene Dro", is the Norwegian version of a British BBC TV-show
"The Week The Women Went".The first season was a big hit.
It's got a simple but effective story:
- Find an village or small town situated far away from anything else.
- Send all the women (18 years and older) on holiday to Turkey.
- Leave the men to fend for themselves.
Keeping the community running, taking care of all the kids,
cooking dinner and do all the chores. Will the men manage?
The second series had it's premiere on Norwegian TV2
08. September 2009.

27.09.09: Åndenes Makt (Season 5) - TV Show Online
Supernatural TV-shows have become extremely popular in recent years.
"Åndenes Makt", roughly translated, "The Force Of The Spirits",
is one of TV Norge's most successful.
The show features long time TV-host
Tom Strømnæss.
Clairvoyants visit families that are troubled by troubled spirits, using their psychic abilities to find out who the lost souls are and why they haunt their surroundings.
I must admit I was pretty skeptical to the show in the beginning, but the clairvoyants certainly
come up with some pretty specific information that turns out to be true.
According to the crew,
this is documentation of the un-tampered truth.
It gave me the creeps, pretty scary stuff!
I onlined and did a swift colour correction pass on 5 x 47 minute
episodes for the new season. It will air on TV Norge autumn 2010.

10.08.09: "Rottenetter" - Feature Film Online & VFX
Just before I left for my holidays in July, I finished off the main work
on my 2nd feature film assignment.
"Rottenetter" is one of the first major norwegian movies to be shot on Red.
I've had the pleasure to work on this project for a while now and have
been involved in different areas, including colourgrading and onlining the
movie trailer earlier this year.
DOP Trond Tønder and I have worked closely to achieve the best possible image quality out of the RED-r3d files. This involved a series of
"digital lab-tests" exploring different colour-spaces and output gammas before extracting the entire locked edit to 10 bit log dpx-files for grading.
In addition to that I did the RED-conform, online and VFX-work on the feature, using Avid DS 10.1 , Adobe After Effects CS4, Mocha AE and SynthEyes
as my weapons of choice.
All greenscreen / 3D VFX was handled by the very talented Rune Spaans.
He designed some really cool CGI-backdrops for one of the main
locations in the movie, a highend nightclub.
Getting the "look" right is a very important part of the production.
DOP Trond Tønder and Colourist Thomas Barkenäs, have really
pushed the images for this movie, creating a juicy, modern palette.
"Rottenetter" has received the honour of being screened as the
final
movie at
"The Haugesund Film Festival", a large festival here in Norway.
As part of promotion for the film, Paradox and Nordisk Film are using an
ARG (Alternative Reality Game).

04.08.09: "A Somewhat Gentle Man" - First sneak peek
The acclaimed Norwegian director, Hans Petter Moland, has got
a great lineup for
his next movie, "A somewhat Gentle Man".
This black comedy features Stellan Skarsgård in the leading role as Ulrik,
who has just been released from prison after serving a long sentance.
He has got a chance to start life again, with a new apartment and a job
at a car workshop.
But first he has to sort out some unfinished business
with the guy who
was responsible for getting him busted.
The cast also includes well known Norwegian actors like
Bjørn Sundquist, Aksel Hennie, Gard B. Eidsvold, Bjørn Floberg and many more.
I had the pleasure to colourgrade and
online a 3 minute preview that
the director will be showing at a special session at The Toronto Film Festival.
The movie is currently in post-production, and will hit the theatres
in early 2010. From what I've seen, it's going to be really cool!

04.08.09: "Det Regner Inn" - Short Movie VFX
Short movies are always great fun to work on.
"Det Regner Inn" was no exception.
This is a strong story about the friendship between two young girls.
One of which who has tried to commit suicide several times.
Her best friend tries to support her troubled friend through her increasing emotional difficulties.
The script is based on a novel written by Ingvild Rishøi.
The short is beautifully shot, and has a smooth contemporary look.
I did the online, enhancing some of the shots with a few subtle vfx.

17.05.09: "The North Cape" - Superduper panoramic movie
Every once in a while a ground-breaking project turns up.
The 14 minute movie, "The North Cape", is one of these.
With a production cost of 10 million NOK, it's probably one of the most expensive short movies ever made in Norway.
It will be show on a massive 19,5 x 3,8m(!) screen at the North Cape Hall,
situated at Norway's northenmost point, 71° north.
The movie was shot on a custom made rig that used 3 x Panasonic
AJ-HPX3000 HD
cameras mounted side-by-side. The cameras were fanned out at slightly different angles so when combined they covered a 16:3 frame.
The post production was done at 5760x1080 pixels, which is circa 6K.
Later on in the shoot, additional shots where done using a Red One at 4K.
High-resolution timelapse sequences where shot with 3 x Nikon SLRs.
Director Hallgrim Haug, and DOP Marius Johansen Hansen have created a cinematic piece with beautiful imagery,
wonderfully edited to an amazing soundtrack.
My main job in the online process was to stitch together the HD / SLR footage to create single 6K images.
This included removing
lens distortion / vignetting / color differences / unwanted objects from
each HD stream, which involved a fair share of tracking and roto-work.
A wide range of tools where used on the job:
Adobe After Effects, Mocha AE, Avid DS, Final Cut Pro, Monkey Extract,
Adobe Photoshop and Red Alert.
Additional VFX shots where handled flawlessly by Tor Øra.
Fredrik Harreschou graded and tweaked the final movie on his
Scratch grading system,
making the images even more stunning.
I'm really looking forward to see the final result in full scale.
It's going to be quite breathtaking.
An estimated 200.000 people will see the movie
every year. It will screen
for a minimum of 10 years,
making it one of the most see movies in Norway.
So if you're planning a trip to the North Cape, go and see the movie!

17.05.09: "When Castro seized the Hilton" - Documentary Colour Grading
Documentaries are interesting in many ways.
"When Castro seized the Hilton" offered the possibility to work with some lovely imagery shot in Havana and Miami, as well as learning the unknown story about the Havana Hilton hotel.
After barely been open a year,
the hotel became the head office and a symbol for a revolution led by Fidel Castro. It also tells the story about how the Norwegian-American hotel magnate, Conrad Hilton, came to lose his Caribbean headquarters.
The documentary includes
loads of interesting interviews and lots of rare archive footage. All the archive clips had to be restorated and rescaled to HD, this included a fair amount of frame rate conversions as well.
This process was done with a Teranex VC300.
I did the grading with Apple Color.
The program aired on NRKs prime documentary slot "Fakta på lørdag",
and has been sold to a number of other countries.

04.04.09: "Rottenetter" - Movie Teaser Colour Grading
"Rottenetter" is a about the dark side of the financial
boom in the
Norwegian oil-capital,
Stavanger.
The film includes a great cast:
Christian Rubeck, Kristoffer Joner, Fridtjov Såheim and Silje Salomonsen,
backed up by punchy imagery.
It's all about money, drugs, extortion, lies, business and brotherhood.
The movie is one of the first norwegian feature films
to be shot 100% on Red.
I onlined and graded the 1 minute cinema teaser.
The master was output to 35mm film, and is shown
at Norwegian theatres before the Scandinavian blockbuster "Men Who Hate Women".
It was really cool working with DOP Trond Tønder, a great guy with an exceptional eye for detail. The feature hits the Norwegian theatres in August.

04.04.09: "Håkon Bleken, maler" - Cinema Documentary
Håkon Bleken is an acclaimed norwegian contemporary artist.
Director / DOP Hallvard Bræin followed the now 80-year old artist for 3 years.
The documentary is an up-and-close, personal story, about this great artist.
I animated a bunch of Bleken's weird and wonderful art, giving a handheld camera look to
high-resolution digital still images.

11.02.09: "Harry's Gym" - Music Video Colour Grading
Just before Christmas I had the pleasure to grade the first
music video for the upandcoming band Harry's Gym.
They have received a tremendous
reception for their debut album.
Harry's Gym are currently touring and have recently been
nominated for the prestigious StatoilHydro grant of 800.000 NOK.
The video is currently rotating on NRK's Svisj,
and rumor has it that MTV Norway might pick it up too.
Director, Vibeke Heide, chose to shoot the piece
with 8mm film, to give
it the poetic
feeling that suited the expression of this wonderful song.

The latest Olsenbanden Jr feature film had it's premiere January 30th.
This was my first feature film gig and was a lot of fun!
The movie was one of the first Norwegian movies to be shot

35mm film and RED. It was quite an learning experience.

11.02.09: Karl III - TV Series Colour Grading
A new sitcom featuring the popular norwegian actors
Nils Vogt and Bjørn Sundquist will start airing on
norwegian TV2
on the 23rd of
February.
This third(?) installment of Karl is now shot entirely on location.
The earlier shows where all studio based productions recorded in front
of a live audience.
Karl III was shot with the new Sony XDCAM HD camera.
I graded 12 x 22 minute episodes in HD with Apple Color.

26.10.08: “Energy Survival” - Motion graphics package
“Energy Survival” is an action-packed reality series where kids compete in different energy-related events in the norwegian wilderness.
The show is in it’s 7th season and has been sold to Sweden, Finland and
Holland. I designed and animated the new HD graphics.

19.09.08: “Hutiheita” - Tv show intro sequence
“Hutiheita” is a TV-show for young children on NRK.
I wanted to do a 2,5D animation with an organic look.
All the illustrations where drawn by my girlfriend Anja.
I cut out the drawings with a pair of scissors, did retouching
in Photoshop, and animation in After Effects. It was a blast!

13.06.08: “Emilie Caroline” - Music video
Emilie Caroline is the winner of a national
singing-contest held by “Nettavisen”, one of Norway’s
largest internet newspapers.
“Make my day” is her
first professional performance as an artist.
I graded and onlined the video on Smoke 2009 HD.

04.06.08: Norsk Tipping Commercial - "Extra Middelhav"
This production was my debut as a commercial director.
I also did the animation & online.
The TV-ad was for
Norsk Tipping, the Norwegian National Lottery.
It turned out to be a nice and colourful little piece.
