Portisco on the Emerald Coast, North-East Sardinia, Italy: 3 km of long sandy beaches. Crystal clear blue sea. The low seasons, spring and autumn, are probably the best, not too hot. You can swim and dive from May through October.
What about restaurants, shopping, holiday sport activities, ATMs etc?
Rest assured:
the Portisco Marina is popular with big yacht owners,
so you'll find those shops etc nearby.
6.5 km from Portisco: the village San Pantaleo.
A few km further off: the popular (and expensive) resorts
Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo.
A look at the famous Rena Bianca beach:
Vacation sports available here/nearby: Tennis, Golf, Biking,
Fishing, Boating, Snorkeling/Diving, Surfing ...
or rent deck chairs, beach umbrellas if you prefer the quiet beach life ...
horse riding: available a little further off.
where to live:
Portisco has a couple of hotels, but the best way to live here
(unless you have a yacht)
is to rent a small
apartment;
at reasonable prices in the low seasons:
May..mid-June,
mid-September..October.
The people who own these flats are multi-lingual:
French, English, Italian,.....
advice:
How to arrive: by plane, ship, ferry to Olbia, 17 km from Portisco.
Cheap planes: 2004 summer, one could fly cheaply with Norwegian Air Shuttle between Olbia and Oslo; saturdays only. From Oslo, other cheap flights to England, or other places.
Or: Stansted - Alghero with Ryanair; then drive your rented car across North Sardinia to Olbia and Portisco.
Sardinia has a lot of lovely scenery, so:
Local transport: Hiring some sort of wheels is strongly recommended:
Car or Scooter or Bicycle. All these can be rented at
Olbia, I believe; cars, scooters also locally from the Portisco Marina.
If you don't read Italian: remember to ask for a car with instructions
in English! The one I got had only Italian!
The roads are twisty, so drive carefully.
