[animated DUCK]
Hello! My name is: Cecilie Irgens

why a swimming duck?

[ME+lion]

This looks like me, with the overweight hidden
by 'Little Big Cat' (It's a real live lion cub, male)

I'm a Norwegian; speak good English and French;
and fair German, maybe?
I was born in 1940; escaped to Sweden in a
rowboat in 1941 (no, my father did all the rowing).
I spent most of my young years outside Norway: U.S.A, France, Egypt, Yugoslavia (peaceful then), Denmark.

Education: Electronics engineering,
applied mathematics, computer science.

Profession: Software design and development; also translation.
For details: see my CV - (I'm retired now)

My interests / hobbies etc. are many and varied: in haphazard order:
Classical music. Unfortunately, I never learnt to play an instrument.
Mathematics, especially discrete math, combinatorics, probability theory.
Programming for fun. Early computer animations (1977.....).
Playing Games, against people or computers.
Nature; animals, especially horses, sea lions, dogs, cats, .....
Intelligence in animals, humans and computers (artificial intelligence).
Flying small airplanes: I have no flying license, so I do the navigation.
Science fiction; historical novels; detective stories; travel stories;
Science books; books about games; other books, books ....
wine, food, cooking.

Oh, sports? swimming (with sea lions or dolphins, whenever possible);
some cross country skiing.
And I used to ride - The horses usually liked me. How do I know that?
Well, they normally came back for me when I fell off.
If you want your horse to come back for you: Treat him very gently, and never offend him. This may save you the long long walk home, and it also gives you a friend for life.

Swimming and diving! I've found a good place for that:
Portisco, on the Costa Smeralda / Emerald Coast; on Sardinia, Italy.
The flats for rent are owned and handled by a friend of mine, an old classmate from my schooldays in Cairo, Egypt (1947-1953). She speaks French, Italian, English.

I am a member of Mensa. This used to be unpopular with many Norwegians, mostly for political reasons. So WHY do I stay there?
The Mensa-haters ought to be curious!

Games, Games!! In some form or other, they fill a lot of my time.
With humans (and books): GO, Bridge, Poker.
- And with my PC: Transport Tycoon, Civilization 2, Supaplex, www.kaser.com\Sherlock, ......

Interested in science? (some of it in Norwegian) - Have a look at
portal til natur og vitenskap p† nettet; Norsk og Engelsk. It opens interesting doors to: the human brain; astronomy; the history of science; animals; dinosaurs; fractals; and much more.

Why that duck logo?
Well, I've been told that I'm rather like a duck:
Small and round; emits a lot of 'quack quack quack' when in form;
swims well; and has flat feet.

I was one of the first in Norway to program moving pictures - back in the seventies, on Tektronix screens (storage type, not modern refresh).

So a lot of people expect a lively animated animal from me. There!
