Games, Games!! I was a tournament Bridge player
for many years, until the tobacco smoke drove me out.
Now I've changed to GO : a game about 4000 years old; little known
in Norway, but played by millions, especially in Japan, China, Korea.
There are very few of us women players, so it's easier for us to qualify.
I've been there, and I was 58 years old then!
Some links:
Mindy McAdams' Introduction to Go
Supaplex
is a Pacman-like game, but requires actual thinking in addition
to quick fingers. It has 111 'levels' or 'boards', so you won't get
through it in a day or two.
I played Civilization - the original one - for some time;
and for fun did a lot of hacking on my private version of it:
Then a friend introduced me to Civilization II. --
Here are some old links - grabbed from
'glyphweb.com' which has disappeared, it seems.
In Civ II, hacking has been rendered (almost) useless! they supply you with
an editable file where you can cook your own parameters - at your own risk!
Warning: the CIV games demand lots of administration,
once you get 'big and rich'. If you don't love micro-management,
have a look at the next game.
If you like City management; also Trade and TRAINS:
TT is a Dos game, with Windows-like functions, and rather nice graphics.
There's also a Windows version.
There are lots of
links to Transport Tycoon.
I now have a lot of experience;
first in 'old TT' - the one before TTdx.
Then in TTdx - TT Deluxe - with 2-way signals, varied climates etc.

You might look at this site:
www.TopBridge.com
a Norwegian website where you can play tournament Bridge, online.
Somewhat like Chess: everything is visible on the board.
Like to try? If you live in Oslo:
the Oslo Go Club
meet each Wednesday from about 17:00 in the canteen of:
'Institutt for Informatikk', Gaustadalleen. Beginners are welcome!
In a year or two, you might get good enough to win a free
trip to the far East, to play in the Amateur World Championship; there's
one for women only, and one unisex championship.
Norwegian Go Association
The old version I had was playable on old slow PCs. But if you visit
The Supaplex Homepage
you will find a new 'Spfix' version, with lots of improvements; and
playable on your new super fast PC.
Fast Turbo Settlers, able to change Land into Sea, and Vice-versa;
Elephants which could carry a few slow soldiers; ... and much more.
I must admit: Civ II is better than even my hacked version of Civ I.
Civilization gives the player hints about History and Science; and
can be played in different ways, with emphasis on:
WAR! City management; Diplomacy; Communication; Trade.
Then maybe Transport Tycoon is the game for you.
TT exists in about 3 versions. The last one so far:
TTd or TTdx or "Transport Tycoon DeLuxe" is best.
You manage a transport company: run buses, lorries, ships, planes and
trains. .. You can have 0 to 7 computer opponents, and may buy stock
in their companies.
The game's main aim is to make money - make good investments in transport
routes. But it's mainly railways - good railway design is important.
And taking good care of your cities, making them grow, is also
important.
So here are Cecilie's TT hints pages ;
