I am a member of Mensa. This is unpopular with many Norwegians, in part for political reasons.
For me, one of the biggest positive surprises on joining Mensa was being treated as a quite normal, equal and complete human being, although I happen to be a single female!

Cecilie at M meeting, 2003 I was invited to parties, to picnics, even to a wedding!

All very unusual for me: some of my well educated non-Mensa 'colleagues' once told me: "this party is only for couples" !!

I was 25 years old at the time...

In Mensa, we can be single, married, just living together, divorced ...
We can be wine lovers, teetotallers, religious, atheists, agnostics; all speaking together in a friendly way, and as I once told that preacher:
"Nobody tries to convert the other person to the opposite thing".

So If you're interested: look up Mensa Norge
or Mensa International

As a Mensa member one has access to a number of international resources, such as:

"SIGHT" - a network for travelling Mensans. Meet a friendly guide on the other side of planet earth!

A number of international meetings. The one I've visited several times, last in August 2004, is "Mensa at Cambridge", always an interesting summer event.

We Mensans have a bit of non-standard fun, now and then
- once I was asked: "Excuse me, are you the Alien?"
The question referred to that time when I pretended to be an extra-terrestrial, camouflaged as a small overweight human being.
My listener bought the story - he was an UFO believer.
