Barnet FC - Macclesfield 2-1(1-0)     Att: 2426

Goals

After a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Macclesfield, Barnet saw themselves on the top of the division. Two goals from Scott McGleish on either side of half time saw the Bees go top for the first time since the 1992/93-season. The first half was close, and we saw few chances. The first chance fell to Darren Currie, when he after 35 minutes curled a shot straight at Ryan Price in the Macclesfield goal. Just four minutes later, Currie created the goal for Barnet top scorer McGleish. The move was started with a fine interchange of passes between Currie and Ken Charlery. McGleish had an easy job of heading in assist king Curries cross.

Early in the second half, Lee Harrison had to show why he is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers outside of the premier league. A Richard Barker shot was deflected away to a corner. Then Steve Wood and Chris Byrne had great chances but couldn't put them away.
Just after these chances, Charlery beat Simon Collins and lobbed the ball over Price, and McGleish had an easy job to score from close range.
Shortly after, the Macclesfield started their fight back. Striker Richard Barker, scored from a Damien Whitehead pass.
Then Harrison had to show his class against Whitehead. Macclesfield continued the pressure, but at the final whistle, the Bees had collected three more points, and climed to the top of the division for the first time in more than six years.

Swansea-Barnet FC 1-2(0-0)     Att: 5167

Goals

The game against Swansea was the first game that Barnet defended their place at the top of the table and the away game at Vetch Field was never going to be an easy one.
It was the home side that got the best start. Within the first 15 mnuts both Stuart Roebrts and Jason Smith had troubled the Barnet defence, but Lee Harrison proved his class.
It took Barnet almost half an hour to get a chance. McGleish couldn't find the net from a Doolan cross, and shortly after, the same McGleish hit the bar after good work from the impressive Darren Currie.
Towards the end of the half Harrison had to make a save after good work from youngsters O'Leary and Roberts.

The second half started as the first. Swansea put the Bees under pressure. Appleby forced a good save out of Harrison.
Fifteen minutes into the half was the Swans given a penalty after Toms had fouled Roberts. But again Harrison proved his worth for Barnet and saved tremendously from Watkin.
Darren Currie continued his impressive form, and only a great Freestone save stopped him from scoring. But only a few minutes later, twelve minutes from time , Currie was at it again. A tremendous shot gave the keeper no chance. The Bees was in front.
A few minutes later though, Martin Thomas equallized for the home side, after good work from O'leary and Price. It looked like a draw for the Bees.
But in the last minute Charlery headed home a McGleish cross, and the Bees is now 3 points clear at the top.

Barnet FC-Northampton 2-1(2-1)     Att: 3,638

Goals

The crowd of 3638, the biggest of the season, saw Barnet make it five wins in a row after a Ken Charlery double was enough to beat a physical Northampton side.
The Bees got off to a good start, putting the Cobblers under pressure, and could have taken the lead as early as the second minute, when top scorer Scott McGleish got to the end of a Darren Currie free-kick, only to see his shot go wide of the post.
The Bees continued their pressure, but the Cobblers had their chances too. One chance was typical of Town's long ball approach. A John Frain free-kick from his own half, was headed on by Steve Howard and Lee Harrison had to make a save from Dave Savage.
Then it was time for Charlery to get it on the act. He got his head to a Currie cross, and the Bees was 1-0 up. This was followed by a period with few chances, but in the 36th minute, Charlery was there again. This time he got his foot to a rebound from Northampton keeper Welch, after McGleish had tried his luck.
Just two minutes later, Canadian international Carlo Corazzin got one back. Ian Hendon crossed the ball after a good run down the right, and Corazzin was quickest to react and made it 2-1.

Corazzin also got the first chance of the second half. This time it was Savage who provided the cross, put Corazzin put it wide.
Barnets first chance came from an Arber free-kick, but Welch kept it out. Then Sampson and Howard came close before McGleish tried his luck with a header from a Toms cross, only to see Welch make a great save.
Towards the end, both teams had their chances, but it ended in a 2-1 victory for the Bees. This was unbeaten Barnet's fourth home win on the bounce. They looked impressive with their new-look young side.

Torquay-Barnet FC 0-1(0-0)     Att: 2520

Goals

Possibly the three best Barnet players this season kept their unbeaten run alive. While Man of the Match Lee Harrison stopped everything from the Torquay players, a free-kick from Darren Currie gave Greg Heald a chance to head in the winner. This was by now means deserved, but who cares about that? This was the Bees' 7th consecutive victory, and the gap at the top widened to 4 points.
The first chance fell to Elfion Williams in the 10th minute. But a fine reaction save from Harrison kept them out.
Williams and his fellow striker Tony Bedeau hit the bar and Harrison tipped over a fantastic Williams volley in what was mostly a on-sided afair. Barnets best chance fell for Charlery in the 14 minute, but he couldn't score.

In the second half, Williams and Healy missed good chances, while Harrison did a great job both on and off the line.
Then in the 61 minute did Barnet win a free-kick far out on the right. It was the regualar free-kick taker Darren Currie who put a perfect cross in for skipper Greg Heald to head home. The Bees had stolen the lead with his 4th goal of the season.
Towards the end of the game, Harriosn made another fine save from substitute Mark Platts. The Bees have never been beaten by Torquay, in a run now counting 13 matches.
