  The Non-league days

Barry Fry with the GM Vauxhall Conference trophy in 1991

Winning the conference

The 1990/91 season signaled the end of Barnet's Non-league days. When they beat Fisher on the 4th May the wait was over. Six years of climb from the difficult position they were in when Stan Flashman took over as a chairman had ended in great success. Barry Fry, the manager was the great hero. It was clearly a team build the Fry way. Nothing seemed to stop the Bees. The optimism was so great that the chairman wrote in the Commemorative brochure that he wanted Barnet emulate the success of Wimbledon success and bring first division football to Barnet in three or four years. Maybe this was the first sign that Flashman lost the sence of realism, that eventually would see him more or less kicked out of the club two years later?
On a sadder note, One of the players from the promotion season, Kevin Durham, died less than a month later from a heart attack.

Winning the Amateur cup

During the first 102 years of Barnet Football Club, they were a non league team. The only notable trophy was the FA Amateaur Cup that Barnet won in 1946.

Players from the Non league days.

Many of the most successful players from the Non-league days followed Barnet into the league and will be listed under the Former bees section. But some players have never represented Barnet at League level.

Gary Abbott - Prolific goalscorer at Non-league level.
Andy Clarke - The star of the promotion season. Striker with pace as his biggest asset. has played in the Premier league with Wimbledon.
Kevin Durham - Midfielder that tragically died a few weeks after Barnet had clinched promotion.
Phil Gridelet - Midfielder and Semi-pro international who Barry Fry predicted would go on to win full England honours.
