Sumo was serving Barnet for 9 seasons in the period between 1981 and 1995. At long last he was accepted as a talented goalkeeper. In 1993, after Barry Fry and Eddie Stein left Barnet, Gary was appointed manager at the club.
Bacause of the difficult economic situation at the club, he had an impossible task of keeping Barnet in the second division. He proved his loyalty to the club, by staying even after the managers job was given to England and Liverpool legend Ray Clemence.
In 1995 he left for Aylesbury, where he was appointed manager. He is now playing for Aldershot in the Ryman premier.
