..press quenching...

..smart people check out those subtle things for themselves rather than swallow whatever the media, or whoever, serves, looking like they enjoy swallowing, thoroughly and quietly.

..I guess I fucked up that quiet part by calling a news-shark when I heard this sorry Colonel talk on the radio......perils of being partially knowledgeable and outspoken... ;-)

..you may want to learn why Norw. clandestine organizations and operations quite often, are compared to onions, there's lots of layers and those who try peel any, usually find reasons for tears.

Updated, now: ..the 6 primary types of press quenching, or use of cover-up stories, I've found by watching media coverage on, ah, events, include :

1. "Denial", used to great effect by former US President Richard Nixon during the early phase of "Watergate", Swedens former deputy prime minister Mona Sahlin during the early phase of her "mismanagement" of her monetary affairs and the Brundtland Cabinet as found below, before "investigation" took place...Bill Clinton failed here speaking of "that" instead of the more honorable "this" woman.

2. "Delaying", used to great effect by former US President Richard Nixon during the median phase of "Watergate", Swedens former deputy prime minister Mona Sahlin during the median phase of her "mismanagement" of her monetary affairs and the Brundtland Cabinet as found below, during the "investigation"...

3. "Crying", used to great effect by former US President Richard Nixon during the final phase of "Watergate", Swedens former deputy prime minister Mona Sahlin during the final phase of her "mismanagement" of her monetary affairs, former Norges Bank (National Bank of Norway) CEO Tormod Moland, appointed by the Brundtland cabinet (we do get some fish ;-)) after the "investigation" proves itself an investigation or vice versa...

4. "Lying", a more sophisticated and subtle way of press quenching by discrediting, for example investigative journalism, through credible disinformation. Typically, such input is typically slightly outside the publishing journalist's true area of knowledge and, preferably, well inside his appearant competence, and when published as his findings, the disinformation will erode away the journalist's professional credibility.

5. "Dyeing",  utilize the general publics feeling of living in a society of Justice, and takes advantage of some socially embarrasing flaw, like mental problems, abnormal lifestyle, drug abuse or crime, on the part of the investigative journalist or other opponent, to erode his professional credibility.  Where absent, indications of such flaws may also be arranged or edited.  Complaints of such treatment, augment its effect.  ANorwegian Specialty, according to the Lund Report and sources.  The Republicans failed here, because fornication is not that embarrasing...

 6. "Flying", an equally more sophisticated and subtle way of press quenching by discrediting, for example investigative journalism, through gradually less credible disinformation. Such input starts off well inside common belief and is thoroughly documented and proven, before easing out towards the fringes of knowledge from science and technology, finally winding up as fiction.
In the final phase the type 5 origin sacrifises his credibility to protect his client from nosy and initially noisy, but then gradually less noisy news-sharks. Quite effective. Sample link ;-).  ;-7

..the only information I find credible there, is someone found reason to launch a number of "cover-up" stories, there may be a mutual interest between the "white man", the "Religious Right", EUropeans and whoever launched these stories, with an edge towards muslims, asians, africans, arabs, russians and jews, and more surprisingly, not at least in part since the Suez Canal Crisis, the yankees...

and finally:

7. "Bailing out *just in time*", used to great effect by former Norw. Prime Minister, Mrs Gro Harlem Brundtland, at 1000 Norw. time on Oct 23 1996, by announcing her Resignation of Office on the same day she was due to answer to Stortinget (the Norw. Parliament), an (evil?) question regarding the Trade Treaty with Indonesia of 1991, in which the Norwegian Translation of the Treaty deviates from the Indonesian and the Legally Binding English Original Treaty Document, by not including the Indonesian and Treaty Legally Binding Definition of Indonesia, by which Norway Officially Acknowledge as Legal, the Indonesian Annexation of East-Timor.  8-7

Parliament Member Erling Folkvord wanted the Prime Minister's Official Opinion on this Acknowledgement in light of Norwegian and International Law.
Candidates to the post of Secretary General of the UN should not put themselves such embarrasment, however it appears the lack of professionalism on the part of Norw. media and her exquisit career management skills saved her career...
