..my preferred use of these 4 Geneva Conventions, is developing translation software: The Legal Source Text is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, which line for line in all the Legal Source Text Languages, has the Exact Same Legal Meaning. From these Source Texts, Each Country must have translations ready for their own military forces and the people, in their languages.
..in All Countries respecting the 4 Geneva Conventions, this work has been done. So we get the electronic versions of choice, fire up emacs and simply reverse the process to build a language pair translation filter, which on fine tuning will do 90-95 % of the translation work.

..a magazine or newspaper report on military combat research I read several years back, claimed, if memory serves, that wounding an enemy soldier in combat, was 4 times more effective, in terms of military gain, than killing the same man. Feel free to correct me if I err.

..the reasoning was the wounded man would:

not be able to complete his military combat mission
not be able to help his military combat unit complete its mission
draw needed combat resources, one or more of his comrades, away from their combat mission into evacuation and medic duty
hurt his combat units combat firepower, capability and morale, as at least 2 men are lost from the combat unit's available resources
require shelter, water, food, medication etc depending on his wound healing
may tell anyone he meets, exactly what happened, comrades, officers, medics, nurses, family members, neighbors, journalists...
as a POW, also require guarding.

..the dead man:

does not scream for help
does not feel pain
provides shelter
provides a surplus weapon
provides surplus ammo
provides a surplus water canteen
and in real bad cases, food

..picture yourself in combat, reloading your gun. Just before you're ready, you see this enemy guy aiming at your left eye, grinning like crazy, telling you to "go home in peace". Just as you swing your gun his way to get him, he arrogantly lowers his gun and proceeds to put a round thru' your right thigh, 4 inches/ 10 cms above your knee.

..now, that will ache. For weeks. It will ache because you survive. He did wound you, instead of killing you, not to save your bacon, but to win the war. Saving your life is just an opional way to demonstrate his superior noble arrogancy. Would you hate him? When you came home, would you lie or tell the truth?

..if this became the norm, instead of bodybags, would you consider this a good or bad norm, for yourself, and your Nation? How does your mom, wife, and kids feel about this?

..for a military man, the above is much harder than the silly round-spraying any shit-less scared chicken can do, so the military prestige won, should reflect both the extra military gain won, and extra military skills required.

..such use of the 4 Geneva Conventions of August 12'th 1949, is perfectly legal. So is leaving your own arms and ammo behind and crawling over to the enemy to become a POW when you yourself are wounded, to avoid harming your own side by overloading your own medics.

..somebody might tell you otherwise, and even command you to kill not only wounded POW's, maybe also even your own wounded men. Dont. It is Criminal. Arrest anyone who give such orders. Get them to the tribunal. Regardless of what you have done hitherto, it will help your case. Even your, Slobo.
