Documents and Visa Generally a visa is needed for foreigners to enter Thailand. The most known is the Transit-Visa, which is issued to visitors from most countries upon arrival. A Tourist-Visa can be applied for at any Thai embassy or consulate. The validity of a Tourist Visa differs between two and three months each. In relation to the number of entries its total validity can be up to nine months (Double- oder Triple Entry). Whereby the holder will be still requested to leave the country every two to three months (depending on the visa) in order to renew his visa status. A new Tourist-Visa can only be issued by Thai embassies or consulates. Foreigners engaging in any kind of work in Thailand must apply for a B (Business)-Visa. Thai embassies in Western countries are normaly issuing the B-Visa without too complications, but the Thai embassies in Asia are mostly insisting on a comlete company documentation, work permit and guarantee letters from Thai companies. The same rules as for the Tourist Visa apply to the B-Visa type. It is only available for a period of three/six/nine or twelve months, depending on the number of entries. Except for the Bankok area a B-Visa must be issued by either a Thai embassy or consulate. Note that all following entries are void in case of a visa overstay. The same rules as above are applying to the O-Visa type. The O-Visa is for foreigners not engaging in work in Thailand and with a foreign income like pension, savings etc. The benefit of this visa tye is the possiblity to apply for a six months or one year visa within Thailand. This visa is issued by the local immigration office. The holder of a B-Visa can apply for a unrestricted one year visa if they can proof that they have paid income- and company tax for a minimum period of one year. Holders of a one year visa must request a re-entry visa before they leave the country in order not to loose the reminder of the original visa.
