Reviews of the Monster X 7" from HeartattaCk fanzine

Monster X - Demo '93 7"
Six tunes from the Monster X demo. Excellent sound quality, and nicely put together sleeve.
It is on white vinyl and limited to 500 copies!! Hopefully it will get repressed in the States (it's supposed to)
because 500 copies is not nearly enough to satiate the hordes of sick fuckers that crave the horrendous
grind of the Monster X!! If you act fast you might score one of these, but you better act fast. All hail the Monster X!

Monster X - 7"
Is the world ready for Monster X? Is the world ready for a straight edge grind band? The straight edge
kids will pretend they're not grind, and the crusties will pretend they're not straight edge.
This is a greatfucking record. Monster X is the future, so cower in fear.

Monster X - 7"
On one hand Monster X play crazy grinding music with totally fucked up and distorted vocals, but at the
same time there is an '88 style hardcore sound bleeding through the guitars... They slap down seven originals
and one cover in just twelve minutes. The lyrics are socio-political and there is some writings included
that elaborates on the themes... the cover also folds out into a poster. I put this out, and I'm totally into it.
A lot of people will certainly not be into the fucked up vocal sound, but if you like your hardcore ugly and brutal
then definitely let the Monster X beat your head with their lead pipe of a sound.

Monster X/Human Greed - split 7"
Both of these bands play pretty much straight up grindcore. Human Greed are from Canada and Monster X are
from New York. Both these bands have great lyrics with Human Greed's being both in English and French-Canadian.
Fast, coarse-throaty vocals, a metallic influence on the guitars and plenty of power is how both of these great bands
go about it. If you haven't figured it out yet, I really like both band. So check this out before it vanishes. The labels are
reversed on this pressing so the Human Greed side is actually Monster X and vice-versa, but maybe that doesn't matter too much.

Monster X/Spazz - split 7"
How can you go wrong? The positive messages in heavy metal music from Monster X combined with the crazy bone crunchin'
whack from Spazz!! Obviously a lot of folks should stay the fuck away from this. Really, if you don't like ugly noise don't
consider gettin' this. But if you like the noise and distortion of Spazz and Monster X, then this is is a slab of dream wax. Crunchy.

Monster X - To The Positive Youth 7"
Monster X is in a class for their own. Here we find them doing eight cover songs of one-time straight edge bands. From the
West Coast they do songs by Uniform Choice, No For An Answer, Chain Of Strength, and Unit Pride. From the East Coast
they cover songs by Straight Ahead, Bold, The Abused and Youth Of Today. To be honest I can barley recognize any of the
songs. Monster X has a sound that smothers up the original feel of these songs with a metal influenced thrash and a raspy and
heavily distorted vocal squalor. For all intents and purposes these eight songs are Monster X originals that simply share the same
name as some older songs by some long dead hardcore bands. Monster X annihilates these songs and claims them as their own.
Awesome. KM ($3 to Gloom Records/PO Box 14253/Albany, NY 12212)

Monster X "Demo 1993" EP
For those of you who missed out on getting their demo the first time around, here's your chance. Spastic grind blur
that comes at you with all barrels open. The vocals are sick, the guitars have that sever buzzsaw sound, and the drums sound so
fast it's unreal. The lyrics are intelligent, attacking the system, calling for the legalization of pot, religion etc. A lot of grind gets old fast,
no matter how much I listen to MONSTER X I have yet to grow tired of them. Not even the tiniest bit. Get this for crissakes!!
(Hater Of God, PO Box 1371, Troy, NY 12181-1371)

Monster X "Will To Die" EP
By far the best thing these guys have put out yet! The Sound is fuller with more depth. You can hear all the instruments just right,
and the vocals sound even sicker than ever. Even the packaging is ace. Along with the lyrics came explanations and some history
of the subjects. The cover is a photo of a blown apart church in Hiroshima in a blue tone with gray background, which kind of helps
set the tone of the music inside. Dark and unsettling. Even the Ebullition logo in the style of Earache is great. The cover folds out
into a poster also. Excellent record, and they cover "P.M.A." from UNITY, but it's done such a way that in the end it becomes a
MONSTER X song. (Ebullition, PO Box 680, Goleta, CA 93116)

Monster X/Spazz split EP
What can you say about SPAZZ that hasn't already been said? What I like best about their music is the dominance of the bass
in their sound. It's like thick chunky slabs of wheat gluten cooked to perfection, the kind you sink your teeth into. eat so much of
you get the cherished food coma in return. MONSTER X lurch forth like a tricked out steam roller that busts up the pavement
and causes building foundations to weaken. If they played California all buildings that weren't retrofitted would crumble.
Lyrically excellent, and they cover "Your Mistake" from NEGATIVE APPROACH, totally wrecking and mutating it. It will
never be the same again. (Reservoir Records, PO Box 790366, Middle Village, NY 11379-0366)
