Astruptunet, the former home of the famous, Norwegian artist Nikolai Astrup is across the lake about 30 minutes drive from Helgheim via Skei has been turned into a museum and art gallery and there's another art gallery (Eikaasgalleriet) about ten minutes down the road from Helgheim. The Sunnfjord Folk Museum is lovely and is about 30 minutes drive towards Førde. The Norwegian Glacier Centre is 20 minutes drive away in Fjærland and is well worth a visit.
